WIP Day 03 : Johanna Basford ~ Enchanted Forest River with Derwent Inktense
The Details : Day 02
Book: Johanna Basford's Enchanted Forest
Media: Derwent Inktense 72 with water brush
Colours: Apple Green 1400, Field Green 1500, Fern 1560, Fuchsia 0700, Deep Violet 0760, Mustard 1700, Tangerine 0300, Golden Yellow 0230
Time: 4 hours (yesterday)
I stopped yesterday all iffy about the purples or amount of purples all clumped together ~ top right hand side of the photo above. Can you see the purple cluster?
My favourite bits are the fuchsia flowers with the mustard tips. I think they turned out the best. And they look great against the green and yellow lily pads.
I think this is where the purple fails. It just doesn't look like it complements the blue of the river and vice versa. This is what I mean when I say I suck with colours.
I'm undecided about the background. I am terrible with backgrounds, I think I lack the imagination to be honest. Some people create entire scenes with their background and here I am, can't even think of colours for it, so I'm just gonna cross that bridge when I get to it. Maybe by the time I'm done with the river something would have popped up.
Day 03
Today I'm hoping to finish the entire top half.
Fine tune the purples. Maybe make it darker and add more red to it.
The frog needs attention, I was thinking dark green with orange spots in the middle with an apple green border so it doesnt get lost in the blue of the river.
The fish needs a bright yellow tint to give it a bit of a glow.
The duck and the treasure chest are my problem bits today, along with that, I dont know what it is, by the frog.
And if I have time, I'd love to get the bottom half done too.
I wanted to bring the pinks and greens down to bottom in hopes it will give the whole page a balanced look. I got started, but it needs more layers of colour, it's looking a bit flat.
Ok, here we go!
(My fur baby is in position. He loves it when I colour in.)
First up, the gold fish. Gave it a layer of sherbet lemon across the belly and alternated it in the scales.
The thingy bob by the frog I decided to do in orange and yellow. If anything just cos I thought it would pop against the blue.
The frog has apple green legs with a touch of sherbet yellow, a field green belly with fern overlay.
I didn't want to get too fancy with the duck. I felt with everything already going on, it might stand out better simple.
And the top half is done.
Now to the bottom half.
Loving the fuchsia and mustard together, I decided to use the same colours for these flowers. When I was done though, I took a step back and felt blah about it. It just didn't have the same cuteness.
As for the boat, I liked iron blue and cherry red together with payne grey, the same grey as the skulls just to bring that colour back in.
I also added it to the blah flowers and I think it worked well.
A few more touches of colour and this is where I'm at, at the end of day 3.
I'm almost there! Just a few more leaves, few more layers of colour just to make it brighter and that's the main picture done.
I'm now stressing about the background... Should I do it? Or not? I'm pretty sure tomorrow is background day and I do not have a plan.
Thoughts? Suggestions? Do you like colouring in too?
