Definition: an introduction to a chorale,
was developed in 17th century Germany as an organ composition based on a chorale melody. the form is found in the later 17th century in the work of buxtehude and in the early 18th century most notably in the 45 chorale preludes of Johann Sebastian Bach.

Every day I make an attempt to add a little bit more music knowledge to the Internet, one word at a time. Realizing there aren’t many comprehensive and complete online music dictionaries, I set out on a mission to compile my own.
Thanks for the "music word" this is interesting, more of an art guy then a music guy, but it's always nice to learn some more "creative stuff"...
