Who are Your Favorite Series Fiction Characters?

After being an avid reader from the very beginning days of Dick, Jane, and Spot (telling my age here!) I have accumulated several favorite characters that are almost like old friends. I thought I'd share some of them with you, and if you'd do the same, perhaps we could both come up some new characters to love and follow their adventures.

Going back, back, back in time to my first years with a library card, I fell in love with a wild stallion, named The Black, who was devoted to a young boy. The author was Walter Farley, and I spent many hours sitting on a burlap sack "saddle" in the crook of a bent tree pretending to ride The Black to my own adventures.

From Sherlock Holmes detecting away in the late 1800s to the charismatic Lt. Eve Dallas standing for the murdered citizens in the mid 21st century, many sleuths have captivated me. Of course, Sherlock needs no further explanation, but if you like detectives, you need to meet Eve. There's over a hundred books in the Death Series written by J.D. Robb (pen name for Nora Roberts) that is set in the future, so you get a little science fiction fix in there along with the murder mysteries.

Then there are the Prey series books, written by John Sanford, that feature another of my favorites, Lucas Davenport. In this same category is the Lee Childs series featuring Jack Reacher, who also now has his own TV series. Jack is ex-military and travels the world with no attachments, mostly on foot or hitchhiking, carrying only his toothbrush and minimal cash.

Opposite of these two rugged handsome hunks is another of my favorites, FBI Special Agent Aloysius Pendergast, brought to life by Preston Douglas and Lincoln Child. He's got to be one of the most original and unscrutable characters, with his tall, thin, pale personna and brilliant mind.

Talking about favorite characters in a series, I cannot leave out Roland the Gunslinger from Stephen King's epic series The Dark Tower. You won't be disappointed or bored if you follow Roland and Jake and Oy, the billybumbler, through their adventures to find the Dark Tower.

So those are a few of my series characters that I look for the next installment of their stories. The Dark Tower is supposed to be finished, but I keep hoping that someday Mr. King will see fit to continue that saga.
