There comes a time in the life of every new Steemian when he or she needs to write an "introduce yourself" post. The "introduce yourself" post is, frankly speaking, the greatest opportunity for any new Steemian to make a first impression on older members of the Steemit community. And, of course, first impression matters a lot. This is why newbies cannot afford to squander the opportunity of writing an impressive "introduce yourself" post.

Therefore, today I will be giving out a few tips on how to write an impressive "introduce yourself" post. I will be drawing largely from my little experience on Steemit and the general characteristics of the few successful "introduce yourself" post that I have read. Now, let's get started:

Don't Joke with Your First Paragraph

I personally believe that the most important part of an "introduce yourself" post is the first paragraph. This is largely because most readers decide whether a post is worth reading or not by scanning through the first paragraph. This is why you must deliberately pay attention to your first paragraph if you must write an impressive "introduce yourself" post.

Although there are exceptions to every rule, your first paragraph should contain the following:

  • Your name and your location.
  • Who you are.
  • How you discovered Steemit. If a friend had introduced you, don't forget to mention the username of the friend.

Tell Us About Your Interests

After writing your first paragraph, which should contain all or some of the things highlighted above, the next paragraph should be devoted into telling the community about your interests. If you are a photographer, for instance, tell us about the kind of photography you are interested in. Wildlife? Landscape? or modelling? You may even show us a sample of your photography. This will earn you some credibility and even upvotes.

Tell Us How You Will Add Value to the Steemit Community

One vital point you cannot afford to miss out when writing your "introduce yourself" post is telling the community how you will add value to the Steemit blockchain. If you are a writer, for instance, tell us how your short stories or even book reviews will add value to Steemit. Community members needs to be sure that you are more of an asset to Steemit than a liability.

Be Courteous

Learn to show gratitude and excitement in your last paragraph. Let your readers know that you appreciate their reading time and would not mind meeting those who share your interests. If you are a photographer, like I mentioned earlier, let other photographers or lovers of photography know that you would appreciate their friendship and support. Also, make sure your post carries a tone of excitement and great enthusiasm. I bet this would earn you not only upvotes but followers too.

Other Tips

The following are other tips that can help you write a fine "introduce yourself" post.

  • Use the proper tags e.g "introduceyourself", "introducemyself", "introduce. This will make your post visible to the friendly members of the Steemit community.
  • Post at least one original picture showing your face. This shows that you are not a robot, at least.
  • Pay attention to your grammar. I know a few persons who develop headache whenever they read posts with bad grammar.
  • Try not to exceed 500 words. The shorter, the better for your reader.
