[EN]TALES OF MINE #01 | "In space, there's no weigh"

in #writing6 years ago (edited)

Hello friends!

today I bring you the first chapter of a series that I will call TALES OF MINE. They are original short stories (of my authorship), where I will try to show you a constant conversation between love and destiny with a melancholy tint.

I hope you like it and support me with this project.

Chapter One - In space, there's no weigh

He felt the cold in his throat. Like never, he was alone. He listened to the silence and that was enough for him to realize. He clasped his hands tightly and smiled, while on his inside, he cursed the little oxygen he had left. He knows definitely, that oxygen is responsible for his departure. Actually, he did not curse oxygen, but the lack of it. As if someone cared. It was his last hour floating in the vastness of space and yet, for the first time, he was not afraid.

---

There was only one thing left to do and little time. Again, the thief time, stealing every second, a pound of life. Why pounds? he thought. If you have to choose the perfect unit to measure life, which would be?. He was sure, the pound. People say that years weigh. The time lived weighs, they are right.

---

Now it all made sense, he only has an hour to get rid of all existence, but no ... He was not afraid. He can't help but question why he has no longer feared. And then he knew, it was the weight, the pounds. In the void things do not weigh, matter floats and will float indefinitely. It was that, the meaning of life and the reason for its finitude. Life is life because it's heavy, he sentenced for himself.

---

Space and life are incompatible. He already knew it, but now he not only knew it, but he was feeling it. He would give anything for a little gravity, to have weight, to live. But no, He had already wasted 3 minutes of oxygen, philosophizing about the meaning of life. There was still one thing left to do and little time left.

---

He was still floating in the immensity of space, he was still alone, but in the distance, he could see the remains of Orion 21, the first manned spaceship that was going to reach Mars. He knew, or rather, he wanted to believe that communication systems with the earth were intact despite the implosion that was cutting him to an eternity of no longer weighing.

---

Then he stretched with all his strength. It was easy but he was not completely sure of the effectiveness of his movements. He stretched and held his breath, he wanted to save a few seconds. He was determined as if every cell in his body stretched at the same time. And he stretched.

---

He did not need much, maybe 5 foot, maybe 100, hard for him to realize between so much immensity, but he was doing it. The O2 meter indicated 7 minutes, 6:59, 6:58, but he's only needed a few seconds. He managed to enter signal range with the main computer and he felt alive, he felt heavy. He felt a very great burden, a heavy responsibility. He had only a few minutes left and one last message.

---

He had not certainties, he did not know if his words will be coming to earth. Perhaps it will be floating forever in the immensity, perhaps a rescue's spaceship will find it, but anyway, He had to say it, do it summarized, precise. Then he already knew the meaning of life and its incompatibility with the ethereal immensity in which he finds himself. And he said it, he has released it at the right moment, while the last second of oxygen was consumed, all his humanity was consumed with it and those two words.
