REFLECTIONS: THE TWO THIEVES

Hello there.
In the part of the world where I come from, because of high level of insecurity, it is a standard to check and double check the doors to our apartments before going to bed. Burglar are on the prowl, seeking for homes that have left their guards down for them to pounce.

As a result of this, community efforts have been employed to curb the menace, with different measures being devised to deal with constant fear people feel as a result of thieves and burglar.

While we can be so smart at employing means to safeguard lives and properties, there are two thieves in our personal lives that we are nearly unaware of and as a result they cart away our peace, joy, faith and positive expectations.

Surprisingly, many of us have given these thieves so much rooms in our lives to wreak their havoc in a subtle manner much to our own chagrin. We carry them everywhere we go even when they have the potentials of crushing us.

I'll introduce you to their horrible fellows you made friends.
They are;
REGRETS FOR THE PAST and FEAR FOR THE FUTURE.

The first thief (REGRETS FOR THE PAST) continue to rob us of happiness when we decide not to move beyond the perimeters of horrible past events in our lives. Many have refused to love again, simply because some devils touched them in the past, while covering their faces with the veneer of love. They fail to realise that allowing the regrets of the past to hold them down is like wearing a scary mask, while seeking favourable opportunities.

Regrets for the past is like deliberately tying a boulder, with fetters tightly fastened to your legs while attempting to run a race. It's never going to work.

You cannot experience freshness and renewal without opening up the channels of your life for fresh waters to come in. Allowing the regrets of the past to hold you down is like allowing musky and filthy water remain in the pool of your heart, you alone will suffer from the stench that comes from it.

This thief robs you of present opportunities. Because you have allowed your mind to continually be tied to this regret, every other road of opportunities may be overlooked, while you may fear that the previous result will suffice again. This thief robs you of progression, it drains your determination and leaves you downbeat each time we try to relish the events of the past, and such ends up draining your energy to proceed further, leaving you stuck and static.

On the other hand, the second thief (FEAR FOR THE FUTURE) is even as ferocious as the first one. Rather than open your eyes to the brightness of the future ahead, this thief,which stands as a monster ahead of you only allows you a grim sight, casting doubts over what you really hope for.

This thief leaves you stuck at the spot and you end up only desiring all that have gone by, while missing out at all that's ahead of you.
Life can only be lived forward, for life only rewards those who never stop moving. So by allowing this thief stand on your way and make you dread your future, you end up missing out on the pearls that are ahead of you.
This thief robs you of faith and many positive expectations.

Whatever beauty or aesthetics you have at hand today will only go weary, thin and subsequently vanishes, for nothing lasts forever. This is so because more beauties and aesthetics lay ahead of you, waiting for you to walk down that road and pick them up, but if you remain stuck to the present because you fear the future, you may never make it to that future.

To battle these two horrible fellows to a standstill is the best you can do for yourself. Never get pulled to the back and never get scared of the future. Use the light within you to brighten your dark past and illuminate your gloomy future.
