PRINCESA DIANA, PRINCESA DEL PUEBLO.

En los años ochentas y noventas hubo una princesa glamorosa y bella cuya fotografía era el objetivo principal de paparazzi y reporteros. ¿Por qué? No era una renombrada actriz de Hollywood, ni una cantante famosa. Sin embargo; todo lo que hacía despertaba interés dándole una fama a nivel mundial por encima de los miembros de la Familia real.

Diana, Princesa Diana o Lady Di, como era conocida, tenía una fama sin precedentes, quizás comparada con la que tuvo a su vez la princesa Grace de Mónaco, pero aun así ella estaba a otro nivel, al punto que era literalmente perseguida por los paparazzi por una foto, no importando la condición, ya que una foto de ella era pagada, para aquél año de 1997, en 1.000.000 de dólares.

Ciertamente, pudo ser considerada por muchos como otro personaje frívolo y privilegiado del jet set internacional, una mujer amante de la atención de los medios, moda y joyas, como quisieron hacer ver los partidarios de la corona inglesa. Pero la realidad hacía ver otra cosa, si bien es cierto que disfrutaba su vida social, también es cierto otro punto, Diana era cálida, accesible con la gente, tenía un encanto que los fascinaba, pues era el único miembro de la Familia Real que se acercaba y sonreía y les miraba a los ojos, a menudo les daba la mano rompiendo así el protocolo, de esta manera se ganó el respeto y amor de los británicos.

Para el mundo ella personificaba la princesa de un cuento de hadas, cuya boda el 29 de julio de 1981 en la Catedral de San pablo, transmitida en 70 países, fue llamada la “boda del siglo”. Joven y bella, la princesa comenzó a ser el miembro favorito de la realeza, ya que su personalidad, estilo, elegancia, sencillez y belleza fascinaban al público.
Sin embargo; detrás de esa sonrisa había una fuerte depresión e inseguridad, el ser centro de atención desde el principio a los 19 años, sin mucho apoyo de su esposo y familia política, no fue fácil para ella, los compromisos públicos la atormentaban, pues no había sido preparada para ello.

Pero con el tiempo, después del nacimiento de sus hijos, Diana fue superando esos temores aprendiendo a lidiar con el público y personalidades, tomó clases de oratoria, cambió su estilo de vestir lo cual le generó confianza y así se acostumbró a las cámaras y comentarios que sobre ella hicieran, la prensa, tabloides ingleses o allegados.
Dondequiera que llegaba Diana en visita oficial, llamaba la atención provocando admiración en la gente. De alguna manera simpatizaba con la gente, su espontaneidad y cercanía, especialmente con los niños, le hacía romper el protocolo acercándose, estrechando sus manos y hablándoles directamente a los ojos, cosa poco común en la realeza.

Los pobres y los enfermos la adoraban. Diana acostumbraba a abrazarlos, era compasiva con los enfermos de SIDA y fue el primer personaje público que estrechó la mano de un enfermo de SIDA, volviendo los ojos del mundo hacia esa terrible enfermedad. La princesa solía visitar hospitales de ancianos y recaudaba fondos para diversas obras benéficas, especialmente a os enfermos de SIDA. Ella sabía que su imagen les ayudaría y hacia ellos enfocó el reflejo de las cámaras.

En su último año, pese a no pertenecer a la Familia Real debido a su divorcio con Carlos, se dedicó a ser embajadora de buena voluntad de la Cruz Roja. A partir de allí quería concienciar sobre el horror de las minas de tierra, el dolor y la pérdida que ocasionaban. Por esta lucha fue acusada de causar controversia, de interferir en asuntos políticos y perjudicar a la Familia Real. Su solución a esta problemática era que quitaran las minas.

Por otra parte, un factor único era su devoción por sus hijos, Diana los educó para que fueran más dados, cálidos y les expresó amor y dentro y fuera de palacio, no se reprimía a abrazarlos en público, siempre estuvo atenta a cualquier situación en que requirieran su presencia, les trató de dar una vida lo más normal posible, llevándolos a pasear a parques públicos o a tiendas de departamentos. Diana quiso enseñarles a sus hijos un mundo más amplio, lleno de deberes, pero también de juegos, risa y sensibilidad hacia los demás. Ella supo introducirlos en la vida pública, animándolos a hablar en las fiestas oficiales, y los llevó a ver obras de caridad en secreto. Ellos fueron su consuelo y esperanza.

El legado de Diana queda en sus hijos, seres únicos e independientes con sensibilidad y menos rigidez. Además, mostró que a pesar de su fracaso matrimonial podía hacer un bien a la sociedad y a su gente y a eso se dedicó el resto de su vida. Llegando a ser la princesa del pueblo, una princesa en sus corazones única e irrepetible.

The poor and the sick adored her. Diana used to hug them, was compassionate with AIDS patients and was the first public figure that shook hands with an AIDS patient, turning the eyes of the world towards that terrible disease. The princess used to visit hospitals for the elderly and raise funds for various charities, especially those with AIDS. She knew that her image would help them and towards them she focused the reflection of the cameras.
In her last year, despite not belonging to the Royal Family, due to her divorce from Carlos, she dedicated herself to be a goodwill ambassador for the Red Cross. From there she wanted to raise awareness about the horror of land mines, the pain and loss they caused. For this fight she was accused of causing controversy, of interfering in political matters and damaging the Royal Family. Her solution to this problem was to remove the mines.
