SteemMonster Lore: Part 1 - Lyanna and Rexxie

in #writing6 years ago (edited)

Hey guys. As you can see today I will be doing something different. I will try to channel my creative side that is usually presupposed by the analytical side and will try to start a @steemmonster lore series. I will attempt to develop the lore behind the game by telling the story of the so called Splintering through the eyes of different in-game characters. I hope you enjoy. The picture set as the intro picture is "stolen" from @steemmonster. All credit goes out to them.

Lyanna and Rexxie

Lyanna woke up completely drenched in sweat. She had not slept this bad since the night she drank too much cocatrice eggnog on her 15th birthday. That night was the worst night of her life. The entire village saw her throw up on her fathers shoes, because of her damned uncle. Dont misunderstand, her uncle was a kind man through and through but he was also extremely mischievous. He kept pouring her that damned eggnog while he very well knew she cannot refuse to drink the sacred brew with the entire village watching. And all the while he kept smiling like he does not know what he is doing. But she will get him back some day. If only her pet lizard Rexxie was a bit bigger and a bit less sleepy her uncle would not dare to make fun out of her.

Pushing the uncomfortable thoughts out of her mind, Lyanna climbed out of the bed and stood in front of the mirror. Noticing her brown long hair was a complete mess she used some redwood bobby pins to pin the wild strands of hair onto her head. Woodland people were a small weak bunch Lyanna not being an exception. Strength was not really necessary because all they needed in life was given to them by the surrounding woods. The Folk, as they referred to themselves, lived in synergy with nature ever since the founding of the first villages by her ancestors.

Wanting to go for a stroll through the thick woods to clear her mind Lyanna called out to Rexxie to follow her, but in true lizard fashion he only flicked his tongue at her staring at her bemused that she would think of such an absurd thing as a lizard walk. Does she think he is a damned dog or something. Lyanna realizing that Rexxie does not intend to leave his warm stone where he likes to relax decided she would just go alone. Why in the name of the Six Splinter Gods did she even expect that lazy lizard to move a single muscle. He told her father she wanted a dog and he said no, so uncle got her a lizard to make fun out of her. She really loved and hated that man.

With a brisk pace she strolled into the forest. She didnt really have a lot of things to do today or in general to be completely honest, so she had the entire day for herself. The woods were truly beautiful with their towering trees and beautiful flowers creeping up the trunks. Bees flew from flower to flower harvesting their sweet nectar and then flying back to the village bee-hives where the sweet sweet honey would be harvested. She could feel everything in nature was in such a perfect balance. Even the rumbling in the distance would not disturb her now.

Wait... Rumbling? What is that. All of a sudden the perfect balance of nature was forgotten and she could feel a growing anxiety creeping up her spine. She could feel a deep tremble reverberating through her feet as the sound was so strong even the Earth was shaking. She could hear the flocks of birds starting chirp as if trying to warn each other of impeding attack, but she was completely sure no predators were seen in this wood for millennia. What could possibly be happening? She better turn back and see if everything was fine with the village. And most of all, her father was the wisest man she ever met and she was sure he would know what this was. Its probably just a storm coming from the mountains she though as she ran down the hillside towards the village.

Just as she caught sight of the village she bumped into a tree branch which came out of nowhere. As she fell to the ground face first with the wind blown from her lungs she thought she must be loosing her mind. She ran through this very path a thousand times and she has never seen this branch. As she tried to catch her breath and clear her mind she noticed a violet tinge to the normally cloudless blue sky. Now this she knew was bad.

She quickly ran to the largest house serving as the town hall where she knew she will be able to find her father. Her father was a diligent man and even during weekends he was always hard at work trying to rule the village with a firm but kind hand. As she burst into the town hall she already noticed the entire village was gathered there. The people were clearly panicking even though her father was attempting to calm people down the best he can.

Just as she ran up to the podium to tell the people about the violet sky the rumbling intensified and then all of a sudden it Quite anticlimactically stopped. It simply stopped. She could tell that her village people were sighing a sigh of relief, the biggest relief clear on her fathers face. She started laughing, thinking to herself how silly she was. Nothing was wrong. Why would anything be wrong. And then she felt it.

She could feel a strange feeling that started from here finger tips and slowly moved up to her arms. She never felt such a feeling. She felt strong. It was exhilarating while at the same time quite scary. Walking through the town hall main door she saw a violet powder like substance was falling from the sky. As she tore her gaze from the sky she noticed people started to follow her by leaving the town hall and gazing to the sky. It was mesmerizing. Like the first winter snow that you waited for the entire length of the extremely hot and unpleasant summer.

Something tore at her. Almost as she has forgotten something. Some sixth sense. Then she remembered. Is Rexxie alright? Running through the meadow in the middle of the village she approached her house. Just as she was about to open the front door she was violently knocked back as her house exploded in a storm of wood splinters. As she tried to get her bearings she heard the people screaming in panic and her father was screaming her name. She couldnt believe she got knocked down a second time in about 10 minutes. But such childish thoughts quickly left as she smelled something weird. It was just warm and smelled of dead beetles. Almost like the beetles that she fed Rexxie with.

Then the realization hit her. She knew what or who was inches from her face. As she opened her eyes, which were still a bit hazy she noticed a giant lizard standing on top of her. The eyes of the lizard were strange, almost feral, but with a familiar lazy glint. It was Rexxie, but bigger and resembling prehistoric lizard fossils she found in the caves deep in the woods sometimes. But how...
