The Trusted Recipe Restaurant is very busy. Mrs Wonuola Ade is the manager and cook at the restaurant. There is another restaurant in town, it’s called Jake’s Fine Food, but most people go to the Trusted Recipe Restaurant because they prefer Wonuola’s cooking.

Lately, some strange things have been going on, someone left little cards on some of the seats, they read, ‘The food in the restaurant is no good! Save your money!.... A friend’.

“Who could be leaving these cards?”, Wonuola wondered. she was in the kitchen chopping all the tomatoes so she could cook chicken stew, it was usually the Tuesday night special at her restaurant, as she was chopping, she noticed a note inside the big bag of tomatoes, it said ‘Give up now or else!’.

Wonuola was worried now, “who could be doing this?” she thought to herself.

So many names crossed her mind, “could it be Mrs. Rita Jakes” owner of Jake’s Fine Food, “but why will she do such an act or maybe it’s someone else” she was still thinking when the kitchen door opened.

“Good evening Aunty Wonuola” Funke, the maid and steward of Mrs Wonuola said as she reached out for a knife to help her in the chopping.

“Good evening Funke” she responded as they were making arrangement for the evening special, they continue taking about the strange cards and who the mysterious person could be.

Back at home Mrs. Wonuola could not sleep as she was still worried about the matter. Her husband Mr. Ade a mechanic was having his supper at the dining table. Due to his work he comes home late at night, after his meal he joined his wife in the bedroom, “What is the matter?” he asked her.

With the look on her face, he knew something was wrong, she was silent for a while before she began to explain the recent strange occurrence at the restaurant and she doesn’t know what to do about it.

“Let’s go to bed dear, I will handle it” he promised.

Early the next morning as she was making breakfast for her husband, she heard a knock at the door, quickly her husband went to get the door, it’s a tall dark man, who came in, sat at the living room with her husband. She was done with the breakfast so she served both of them.

“Good morning sir” she greeted.

“Good morning madam” responded the tall dark man, as she place the plate of fried plantain and eggs on the table.

“Honey this is officer Madugu, a friend of mine. He is a private investigator I hired to help you with the occurrence” said her husband.

“Thank you darling” she responded.

“Please madam for how long has this been going on?” Madugu asked.

“Three days now” she replied.

“Don’t worry we will get to the bottom of this” Officer Madugu concluded.

After breakfast her husband left for work together with the officer, she cleaned up and headed to the restaurant on reaching there, she was really angry and worried as she saw a signboard hanging at the door which reads ‘Poisoned food beware!!!’.

She immediately called her husband to inform him as she removed the signboard and continue the normal business which was bad for her that day as not much customer came to eat, which made her more worried.

Later that night she decided to cook some special dishes to attract more customers. It was a busy task for her but was less stressful as Funke was there to help.

It was around 06:17PM on the clock when her first customer came in wearing a suit and a hat. He sat on a chair.

“Good evening sir, what will I get for you sir?” Asked Funke

“Good evening, Egusi soup and pounded yam” he said.

Just a minute as she left for the kitchen to get his order.

The restaurant was quiet and empty as both Mrs. Wonuola and Funke were busy inside the kitchen.

He looked left and right to make sure nobody was watching him then he brought out some cards from his pocket and began to place them under the table mat, suddenly a voice shouted, “Young man hold it there, you are under arrest” it was officer Madugu, who has been hiding behind the door of the restaurant.

Unknown to the criminal he tried to run away but it was too late he was caught in the act and arrested. It was later reported that the criminal happen to be Mr. Jakes, husband to Mrs. Rita Jakes owner of Jake’s fine food.

The news about the act went across the town and everybody started eating at the Trusted Recipe Restaurant. To officer Madugu. Mr Jakes was caught in the act.
