Later the next day, Nick was standing in front of the door, waiting to knock. 11:29.
He knocked… and moments later, Nick heard her voice, the staccato of shoes rapidly approaching, and a crash. She clearly banged into something as she made a beeline for the door.
“Hi!” She was holding a small potted plant.
“Oh, hi… I didn’t get you anything.” He said.
“What?” She looked at his hands, and he looked back at hers.
“No… silly, this was on the table… I heard the door and I was walking by,”
“...running...?”
She looked at him, lowered her head, and smiled, “… I was calmly walking casually to the door.”
“Calmly and casually.” He repeated with a wide grin.
