General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), do you know it? / Plus bonus :)

The EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is the most important change in data privacy regulation in 20 years.

It’s main purpose is to harmonize data privacy laws across Europe and to protect and empower the private data of individuals against companies and corporations that use these data for profit.

You all know the problems Yahoo and G-mail had with hacking in the past and the troubles with the law that Facebook had recently regarding their users personal data (e-mail addresses, user actual names, home addresses, phone numbers).

GDPR comes to solve some of these issues by providing guidelines that all companies that process and store personal data of EU citizens MUST follow.

Now you know why your mail inbox is flooded with “Please accept” or “Renew subscription” mails.

The new regulation has SO MANY articles and paragraphs and appendixes and it is so confusing that maybe having a law degree will be the next prerequisite that will be required for employment.

I can imagine the job ads now: “Hair salon request young lady to work as a receptionist. Must have: age 30 at most, good looking, polite, law degree. Wage 7days/week, 550€”.
