HAIR LONG OR SHORT? 

Traditionally long hair was a symbol of masculinity, all the great warriors of history had long hair, from the Greeks, the Norse, the American Indians and the Japanese. The longer and beautiful the hair, the more virile the warrior was considered. The Vikings wore their braids and the samurai wore their long hair as a symbol of their honor, when they cut their hair they lost their honor.

The Romans were the ones who "invented" short hair to say it in some way, between the 1st century B.C. and V A.C. 

In the battles they believed that this gave them defensive advantages, since their opponents could not grab their hair. This also helped them to recognize each other on the battlefield. But at the same time it was a political decision, and the emperors imposed on men this custom as a form of socio-political control. 

 
Today men use it short because the peoples that were conquered by the Romans adopted this custom, generation after generation and we inherited it. Nowadays it seems almost natural and many believe that men look better like that, but that belief is the result of cultural indoctrination.

In addition to the reasons the Romans had for cutting their hair, short hair became a symbol of humiliation, because when a warrior was captured his hair was cut to humiliate him, to take away his beauty. That custom was retaken in what today is military service. There when the new soldiers begin their training, the first thing they do is cut their hair to undermine their self-esteem, make them submissive and let them see who is in charge. 

 Men do not care so much about aesthetics and it is also very comfortable to use them for short. But if we think about it, the social obligation to cut our hair is comparable to oppression and is a repressive social imposition, while long hair symbolizes freedom
