RE: How Alien connects to Blade Runner, and Philip K Dick's drug fueled paranoia

in #writing6 years ago

Some of the most seminal movie sci-fi in these two (one?) franchise(s). I absolutely love the way the Alien/Aliens movies seem so grounded in realistic tech. Everything just seems believable, from the conversation in the original movie about pay bonuses being affected by diverting to investigate the alien signal, to the way the marines joked in Aliens, to the way the weapons were shown to work... just spot on world building.

The original Blade Runner was something truly special. References to things like the Voight-Kampff test show up in unexpected places like the Archer animated adult comedy, to Deckard's pistol showing up in the game Fallout. A great perspective on what it is to be human, and how much our memories play the key element of that.

Most of all, these films tell great stories, with compelling characters we care about, while immersing us in a future sci-fi reality we can accept because it is so well grounded and realistic.

Would love to see more great sci-fi like this, but it is rare.
