The feeling a writer gets from one finished project is much more precious than that which comes from a hundred uncompleted ones. As humans we like to finish things we start. Apart from the feedback or money that comes after you make that blog post, the sense of accomplishment is priceless. It is something we want to experience over and over again. When you take time off a task, your brain keeps reminding you that you should go back to it. And there is an interesting discovery, called the "Zeigarnik effect", that a person is likely to remember things they never completed over the ones they did. Where ever you are, and whatever you're doing, disruptive thoughts about your unfinished task keep coming into your mind.
But unfortunately, many times it is easier to start writing that article than to actually finish it. The excitement you have before picking up your pen dwindles gradually and you might just end up abandoning the project. We want to be result oriented people, not people who come up with ideas they don't realise. Here are some things we can implement to finish every writing we start.

Don't Be Derailed By a New Idea

While writing your article a new idea might come to you. This is a good thing because every blogger's wish is to have great things to write about daily. However, if you jump on every idea that comes to you immediately, not minding the fact that you have an article waiting to be completed, your blog is always going to be blank. So rather than switching to this new idea, it is better for you to just note it down somewhere and go to it when you are done with your present project. Being creative is good, but being an achiever is better. You can't keep dreaming up ideas that you never realise. It will in the long run affect your psyche negatively.

You Do Not Have to Stay Inspired to Finish Your Writing

When new ideas come to us we are often excited. That energy we get from it makes writing the first few words or pages effortless. But enthusiasm often does not last the whole period of writing. Soon you lose that initial excitement and the project begins to feel like work. At this stage, you need a different kind of quality to finish your writing. This quality is perseverance. In the ideal world writers write at their on pace when they feel inspired, but most times in the real world, they just do it whether or not they are inspired, because they have deadlines to meet and articles don't write themselves. It is a blessing when we feel inspired all through the process of writing our work, but it is not necessary.

Don't Overwork Yourself With Too Much Research

When a writer has done good research before writing, readers can often tell. So writers know that they have to put a lot of work into that part of the writing process. Some people enjoy it while some do not. Regardless of how you feel about it, you want to make sure you have energy left for the actual writing. Are you getting any new information from all the stuff you are reading? If you are, can you put everything in this single article? You don't want to do so much research that the task of writing becomes too daunting to undertake. You also don't want to spend as much time researching for a blogpost as you would for a book. Do only what needs to be done to write what you want to write. The world is waiting for the finished product.

Remove All Distractions

Most often than not, it is possible for you to finish writing within the time you have set out to do so. However, there are a million things that can make you not complete it when you are supposed to. Fortunately, most of those things are distractions that are within your control. Everyday, hour, minute and second, a free adult has to choose what to do with their time. For example, you have chosen to read this article for reasons best known to you. But there are other things you could be doing right now. Productive people stay fully commited to any task they start until they complete it. The result is that they are happier people because they are able to achieve many of their life goals. However, people who let themselves get distracted and abandon tasks halfway cannot reap the rewards that come from attaining their life goals. So when you are writing, it is necessary to remove all distractions like television, the internet, noise and so on. Look for a private place where you will not be disturbed until you are done with your writing. If you remove everything that will distract you, you are more likely to finish what you started.

Be Accountable to Someone

A good trick you can use to make sure you finish your writing is to tell someone when they can read the finished work. This has to be someone whose opinion you care about. And someone who thinks highly of you. It will help you do everything possible to get the work ready on time.

If you follow the advise given above, It is very possible to finish all the writing projects you start. As a blogger, the rewards are endless. I wish you success as you work to become a more effective person.

Over sense-making 👏👏👏
I am suffering from this right now sef, very frustrating. Inspired is how I write, been pushing myself to learn to do it consistently whether inspired or not.

I too struggle with writing when I am not inspired. Trying to write with distractions everywhere also does not help matters. At least there is a way out.
