Zwift

Cycling is fun! Getting out on your bike on a sunny afternoon, cruising to beautiful landscapes can be a good way to clear your head after a busy day/week. In some countries however, weather isn't always that nice and if your out of shape, those rides can be quite tough, depending on the amount of altitude meters to be battled. For those who want to stay in shape during the bad days, or train during the off season, there is Zwift!

What is Zwift?

Zwift is a kind of game, where you can hook up your smart trainer with a bike to simulate a ride in one of the virtual worlds. At this moment, there are 5 worlds to explore: Watopia, Richmond, London, Innsbruck and New York. Watopia is a purely virtual world, whereas the others are based on real world roads.

In Zwift, you ride around with the thousands of other users, making it as well a social event. You can chat with each other and give each other Ride On's (a Thumbs Up), while you all go through the same suffer of going up the Alpe. Furthermore, with each kilometre or mile you ride, you earn some experience to eventually level up and unlock new bikes, wheels, cycling kits, etc.

Another nice future of Zwift are the workouts that are available and the possibility to make your own workouts if you can't find what you want. These are a very good way to increase your performance or FTP (Functional Threshold Power, more on this in a next post).
