My Actifit Report Card: June 19 2019
Construction
As I walk around the city getting my activity in I think about my Actifit post and what shots I can get and share each day, I took a variety of shots today before I decided on the theme I was going to fo for.
NYC is always changing new construction is to e seen everywhere you go and thats what I will focus on for this post.
Its not always new construction sometimes it is refurbishment of an existing building which was the case with the building where I saw these handcarts clearing used for taking concrete into the building

Along with any construction, wither new or refurbishment of existing buildings scaffolding over walkways t protect pedestrians from falling objects is very common place, this next shot shows a new bit of scaffolding going up, along its more scaffolding supplies on the truck parked in view

When refurbishment is going on as well as taking new supplies into the building a lot of things are torn down and taken out, which is shon in the next shot with a bunch of hampers filled with trash from the building site.
What it also shows, if your to zealous taking these out and push it to far it may fal off the curb onto its side, and if your own your own its to heavy to pick up, so the solution is to piece by piece take items from the one that has fallen over and put it into one of the other bins, which the guy in shot is doing.

When the scaffolding goes around an existing business, they have to make sure access is still provided and there signs can be seen as shown in the next shot

I don't know if they are called wheelbarrows, but they look like those. Yours look a bit user friendly. The ones here require a bit more manpower.

Yes your right they are a sort of wheelbarrow I had a brain fade and didn't even think of the name LOL

Those buildings seem so narrow. It is crazy. Nice shots though. I had never thought about how they get the concrete into the building before...
Ohh yes some of the buildings are incredible narrow, one that stands out not int he photos is one that is called by Many the Pencil Building which has a really small footprint but is 88 floors high, hence called the pencil
Such a busy area @tattoodjay. Everyone still trying to conduct business while construction moves along. The safety precautions would be so difficult with those narrow streets. Meanwhile, business as usual for the street vendors, love it. Always something happening in the city :)
Ohh yes seeing the scaffolding over footpaths is such a common site here it must be a nightmare for planning and construction with having minimal impact on traffic and life the city, but it all goes on
Nice photographs and explanation of NYC’s construction process! It still amazes me how high workers make these buildings. I couldn’t imagine working at such a high level.
Heights do not generally bother me, but I am glad I do not work in that area, especially on the super tall high rise buildings
Oh yes definitely!
Just looking up and seeing people working on Buildings especially int he cooler months give me such respect for those workers
I bet it does! That’s a lot of brave work!
I occasionally will see Construction workers in the local delis at lunch time and I must say they are an interesting bunch of characters ;)
Thanks so much I do appreciate your support and resteem
Those high towers make me feel dizzy just looking at it. Construction has been ongoing more and more each week here in our place I think. There's the nonstop noise all day. At one point, some have to be stopped because of lack of materials.
Haha! Sometimes it totally made me dizzy to walk on the floors without walls just two floors up when building houses. I can't imagine how dizzying being in the sky scrapers would be! Construction was so noisy!! It's one of the things i disliked most about the job. I started wearing ear plugs later on. The saws and stuff are just so loud! 🙉
Floors without walls? That just made me sweat lol! I have fear of heights and the thought of falling.

Can you believe that I still look with longing eyes at any construction works that I see JJ?
I started as a construction carpenter when I left the army in the 70s and became one of the youngest foremen in the country. Worked on the foundations of tall buildings and most other fields of the concrete industry. Can operate any crane and drive any construction machine.
Then it all ended when a bad slump hit the construction industry and I left to become a high speed cigarette machine technician.
I really enjoyed my time in the construction industry.
Blessings!
My father was a carpenter /cabinet maker for many years and even after he had to switch to factory work he still kept up with it in his home workshop the skills needed for that did not pass to me
It’s a hard and physical industry and I have all the respect in the world for those who work on these high rises
Cheers
I think the worst of it is that we had to work in the mud when it rained.
Our high risers normally go down 3 to 4 floors below street level for the underground parking spaces.
Imagine the huge square hole being wet and we had to go down in the hoist to go and box the steel for the foundations prior to pouring the concrete.
Once we hit the 2nd floor above street level, it all becomes repetitive.
Steel first, boxing second, casting third, stripping, and then repeating on the next floor.
I had arms that had steel sinews in those days.
Sad that your dad did not pass the skills on to you.
Blessings!
Yes going down a few floors is also very common on city construction sights here, and often used for parking which is always at a premium in the city
I can imagine the mud on wet days must be such a nightmare to deal with
Doing that sort of work I am not surprised you had arms with steel like sinews
I cant blame my Dad he did try to tech me this and that at times, but it is just somehting that isnt in my genes i guess
Well my friend know this only!
You were blessed to have a dad.
In my day us that never had a dad was a scarce event, but today Stats SA stated that 62% of children here are without fathers.
Mind blowing!
Blessings!
WOW that statistic is both mind blowing and so scary and Sad, the world is getting so bad in so many places
