More Substance Study
More Substance Designer practice. This time around I wanted to try a rocky material. I learned about a few new nodes with this as well as the general approach of making an organic rock pattern. Still needs work, but I think I've got the BASIC idea.
It's made to go on a plane like the first image, but it's pretty interesting to look at these materials on different 3D shapes.

Substance is such a deep program, it's interesting because it's this blend between technical and creative. I'm still having fun and I want to learn more so you all will probably see more studies like this coming from me. That's about all for tonight. Have a good one peeps!
That blend between technical and creative was precisely why I wanted it XD Blender actually doesn't do too bad a job with its node trees but as I have this bad habit of making materials on the thing I need to make it on sometimes it gets pretty heavy (or crashy when I get stupid XD).
Yea, most render engines have a node based workflow, it's just what makes sense. I use one in Octane as well, but it doesn't have nearly the power of Substance for creating things from scratch.
I really love these sort of programmes, @midlet well I love the idea of them. Every time I've tried to sit down for a bit to use them I always get distracted. It's amazing what you can make. The creators of our new Virtual and Augmented reality will be the architects of the New World.
While I really enjoy using software like this, to the point you made, they also sort of scare me because it's so powerful. One person who really knows what they're doing in Substance can probably do the work of 10 texture artists from just about a decade ago. In the end that means less jobs, so I guess I gotta learn it first! Haha.
