Spaceship-City LaunchsteemCreated with Sketch.

This one was a commission. It had to be a vertical US letter half-page size. That kind of layout, at least for me, is kind of tricky regarding composition because of the tall proportion.

The piece had to depict a launch event of a big ass spaceship in a city. I started with sketches for giving me some ideas for composition. One sketch was horizontal:

And other two vertical, how it should be.

c2.jpg

The one of the left camera is on a rocket-like spaceship, from there we have a view of the city underneath.

The one on the right camera is at some midpoint of the city height, and we see the spaceship leaving.

I liked better the horizontal one (the first one) because you can see a little of the curvature of the planet, and it let you see the scale of the big ass spaceship. Seemed to me more cinematic and interesting.

So I had to adapt it to the vertical layout. So much of the planet had to be cropped. It ended like this:

Here is a sort of process animated gif of the painting.

Final piece looks like this:

Full Res is almost double in size.

Here are a couple of zoomz:

Spaceship

Breaking its way through the atmosphere, like a newborn breaking its way through the placenta... haha.

Ground

In my head this spaceship was so big, itself was like a city, and took a long time to be constructed, so much that an entire nation was constructed around it, housing most of the crew and all the man power that was needed to develop it. Construction lasted decades. Generations after generations were bound to the spaceship, the one that would make space exploration the only life purpose for all the people on board. It was so big that it actually left a hole in the city after launch. It was the heart of the nation after all. May all the explorer's souls find peace and fulfillment out there in the most remote stars and planets, in the veryheart of the cosmos.

This looks very exact and you got the proportions perfectly in my opinion. Your client must have been happy with the piece. I love how the light blue goes into almost black gradually. It looks cool. And those stars are so nice too! And I like your comment that the spaceship is like a newborn breaking its way through placenta, lol. So original!

It's a great art piece. Thank you for sharing and have a good day!

Thank U for such nice words always :)
I saw a video of the birth of a chameleon. Mom chameleon gives birth to this little encapsulated fellow. He fells and land in a leaf, still inside the placenta. Then he breaks through it and cling to the leaves all cute little fella. I think I remembered that while writing the post haha.
You too have a great weekend!

brochetazos libresoy🎶

¡Jajajajja! He estudiado de manera autodidacta.

Jaja. Abraxos.

Awww yeahhh! This is another awesome piece from you :D.

I really like the concept (even if it's a commission piece!) and how you execute the illustration. It does look like a giant architecture that left its home in a hurry, and it's kinda cute that it left a hole behind, since most spaceship launch doesn't do that. But obviously this one is pretty big, city wide big, so no wonder that it would create a vacuum in its stead.

The animation and the step by step gives this post cherry on top of the ice cream :D.

It was like a big dome in the city that extended also waaaay below the surface. That's how it was built. Thanks kind scrwls :D

Woooooooooooah, shit! This looks crazy!!!

It sort of reminds me of the "Gardens," in Final Fantasy VIII that were universities with deeper roots than people knew. Super cool. Following ya!

Thanks man! Y'know... I've never played a FF in my life yet I'm familiar with various characters bosses and creatures. I shall play them, at least some. I wish I have the time to (╥﹏╥).

VI, VII, and VIII are where it's at if you choose to play 'em.

Fantastic! I think I've seen all the sketches before, but the gif is really cool to watch.

I do have to say that the idea of the ship leaving a hole in the city is fantastic, and really lends itself to the theme well.

Thanks my friend! Glad you like the gif. Honestly I never thought I'd make a gif of this piece.

zeen, you are so crazy good like omg * ___ * how are you THIS good???? GEEZ~

geez

so so so good * ___ *

ahem. i love how you laid out the process from the sketch stage through to the completion * ___ * the fact that you HAD to work in a specific frame must have been challenging but i think you nailed the composition so well !

i love the zoomz so much, also.... such crazy amount of details! WOW!!!

I wish the best of luck to the space explorers! May the CityShip venture far and happily into space !!! :D :D :D

Hahah, I think I'm not THAT good. But it's always a nice warm vibe boost coming from you. Thanks <3

Perhaps we'll see the fate of the explorers in the future. For some may have been bright... for others not at all.

Haha you answered my only question at the end :)

Great work!

A few scyscrapers would have been cool. But this civilization seems to prefer building in the opposite direction ;)

Hahah you're right.

I actually added some tall buildings, but they didn't look much nice, so I not included them in final version.
