Stemming the Migration Flow in Africa

The Libyan War may have greatly increased the number to an overwhelming crowd of people fleeing the continent over the last decade, but a mass exodus of people via legal and illegal migration routes has been taking place on the continent for sometime.

It is even more apparent when you consider that Libya has a thriving human trafficking base where people seeking to flee the continent use as a way out. War stands side by side other serious situations to consider like poverty, economic development and infrastructure, Human rights and social welfare.

Even when peace is finally restored to Libya, the Illegal trafficking channels will still thrive unless the underlying issues are addressed head on. Rather than the reactionary approach to the migrant crisis, the EU and US can do a lot more for the continent by taking proactive steps to cut the need for embarking on such a dangerous trip.

The major interventions badly needed on the continent are not military, but economic. The 'big' nations must adopt the same zeal put into showcasing power and postitions of strength to actually benefitting the lives of citizens in Africa. Schemes like AGOA and others need to be amplified with a larger coverage to benefit a lot more people and drive inclusive growth between Africans and the rest of the World.

The ‘we owe them nothing’ mindset needs to be dropped and the cost of a never ending migration wave must be juxtaposed with the cost of creating opportunities for growth and stability on the continent.

Sort:

With the Italians saying no more to immigrants and soon the others will turn and say no more then the routes will be blocked. I think the tide is turning about giving hand outs to Africa as the money never ends up with the ones that need it. Africa has to start standing on its own two feet now as countries cannot justify the foreign aid payments when their countries are crying for things to be sorted at home first.

I've seen that many African regions are heavily supported by China. I'm not sure any other major powers would be "allowed" to participate in funding Africas economy growth since China's government is already heavily involved on most of that continent.

I don't think they want to. I have never seen an offer for help turned down before...most of these countries literally beg for FDI

Probably, although there is something to do with China forcing their own governance on to any regions who accept their aid. I want to say it mostly comes down to the major continents looking out for themselves. Steemit is a nice step towards foreign aid being strengthened without government interference.😁

howdy there this fine Sunday night empress! yeah it makes too much logical sense to stop the war and help rebuild the country so there isn't millions trying to flee from it. It would cost less to stabilize the country than pay for all the immigrants for the rest of their lives.
But maybe that's too logical for them.
