You’ll Never Know What Hits the Spot

It’s funny when you think you know your audience and know what gets them excited and talking, and what goes pretty much unnoticed. But you don’t.

You know nothing Jon Snow!

I’ve been at this for almost two years on the daily and I still get surprised by some of the responses to my posts. That only goes to show that consistently putting out material, different kinds of material, is good because you’ll never know in advance what works really well. Of course luck and chance have something to do with it also, but regardless, the results are hard to predict.

I have ordered myself to do two posts per day, no matter what kind of posts, but there has to be two. Sometimes I put effort into good photography, sometimes I do a shitpost, and when I have nothing else, I just write what I have been doing that day. The two latter being something I never expect to do well in terms of engagement, but what quite often surprise me with how good of a response I receive from them.

Sometimes it makes me mad that, in my opinion, a boring and half-assed post does really good, and then some quality content that I really like and use hours and hours into making, just gets a couple of wankers commenting. I’m exaggerating, calm your tits, I appreciate all of you.

I’ve mentioned this before but I measure the level of success on a particular post by the amount of comments, instead of rewards. Of course if something goes to trending all of a sudden, that does tell me something, but overall as most of the upvotes are automated, the comments are where I can see the real value of my post. I’m often most excited when I see someone new in my comment section, or someone who doesn’t engage often, uses his/her time to comment to me.

Sometimes I try to push myself to only do really good posts, but then why do I bother when a shitpost gets the most engagement. I guess I’ll just keep doing the most random posts and you’ll never know what comes next, and I’ll never know how it is received. Such exciting times we live!

it is weird, sometimes a sentence in a post gets more comments then a few hours spent on a post

I guess you just have to find what that one hook is and save your time 😂

I'm happy there's a place that reminds me of ye ole livejournal days..

people can post and not try to be too impressive with the vacation or lifestyle promo junk that you find everywhere else..

I consider myself a bit of a lifestyle blogger (throws up in my mouth) but I try to make it more interesting and laid back, and I don't really give a shit to put on too much of a façade. Just a little bit.

looking over the past few weeks, what are your most surprising shit posts?

The tea post from a couple days ago, surprised I got any comments on that 😅

You can't go rustling someone's jimmies and then tell them to calm their tits!

But I just did ;)

calm your tits

probably one of the best expressions. i don't focus at all on 'who does it better' and 'that is better/worse that X' -- i just use the chain in the way it was intended, to be a ledger to the human fallout of fusion that falls out of my brain and into the galaxy.

That is a really poetic and deep way of putting it. I just like to talk about myself so that is what I do.

why the hell not otherwise what the fuck are we doing here.

Automated upvotes. I’m personally not a fan. I agree with teamhumble...”calm your tits” is a great expression and under utilized. Oh...and sometimes there are multiple spots that get hit by a post.

I obviously am a fan, being on the receiving side, but my outgoing votes are always manual because I don’t trust anyone to make upvote worthy posts every single time 😅

I like what you text here and I want more read what you next text :) So I give 100 % Upvote ;)
Just not stop and lets make steem big :) And cool B&W photo :)

Like the philosopher Socrate said: "I know that I don't know"...so it's normal that you can't know what the outcome of each single post will be. Who can know?
Anyway I think you have to do what you like most and not what people like. In this way you will do a "natural selection" of your audience...but obviously it's up to you :)
Personally I love your photos like this one ;)
Bye bye

It's good to keep that in mind if you ever feel too smart.

I always do what I want, but I also do this for the moneys, so I can't just put up some bullshit all the time and expect it to work. Well pictures like the one on this post take minimum of 6 hours of work, so I can't just do those, it wouldn't be reasonable, I'd drive myself crazy. So I keep mixing it up.

Oh how I wish natural selection still worked.

Yes sure you are rigth: time and mental health are precious, and nobody will give them back to you!Mixing up different content is a good way to reach more people. The important thing is not sell yourself just for money and homologate to the mass.
Happy to talk with you, have a good day

If I tried to please people and kiss ass, I wouldn't be this successful as I am. I do good because I am unapologetically who I am. Being real always sells better than being fake.

Yeah definitely true!!
