Big Changes Or Empty Promises For Cannabis In The UK?

in #cannabis6 years ago

Craig Williams and Rachel Rankmore are from Cardiff, Wales, and they are just one family among many who are desperate to try cannabis to see if it could potentially alleviate some of the symptoms for their 16 year old son who is struggling with epilepsy.

Their son, Bailey, is reportedly juggling at least 6 different medications to deal with his symptoms and the family have been eager to have their health consultant pursue cannabis for him.

They allege that they had previously given him legal CBD and they reported that they saw it had drastically boosted his quality of life, this made them even more excited about the prospect of trying cannabis to see if it could help.

Despite their efforts though, it's reported that the consultant has rejected their request to pursue cannabis access and they won't be applying to the 'expert panel' that would ultimately make the decision.

The Rules Are Changing Though...

Starting in a few weeks on Nov 1st, doctors will be able to start giving out prescriptions in the UK for cannabis. This sounds great on the surface, it sounds like those who need or want to try it would be able to freely access it after these changes come through, but unfortunately that isn't the case.

While it is true that cannabis is planned to be rescheduled and that in weeks people in the UK, including England, Wales, and Scotland, will be able to receive a prescription for cannabis, the rules are still going to be very strict. And not everyone who wants or requires access is guaranteed to be able to receive it.

General practitioners reportedly won't be able to authorize the cannabis prescription.

These prescriptions are required to come from healthcare specialists and they will need to demonstrate that the person has expressed a clear need that cannot be met by licensed pharmaceuticals.

So, once you have exhausted all other big pharma options, testing various medicines that have a myriad of negative and potentially life-altering side effects, then the government might decide that they will allow you to access cannabis lawfully.

Whether or not the prescription is given is going to be decided on a case by case basis.

They've also insisted that just because they might be moving to reschedule cannabis and somewhat open the door to a bit more access, they still are not considering recreational cannabis.

Authorities in the UK have insisted that they sympathize with those who are struggling with a variety of health problems and who may be desperate to try cannabis. But do they really? If they truly had sympathy for the suffering that many are going through who could be potentially helped by this plant, then they wouldn't insist on perpetuating a misguided and dangerous drug war against the free choice of people to consume cannabis.

There has never been 1 death attributed to a cannabis overdose.

Cannabis should have never been made illegal in the first place and now when various authority figures slightly lift those restrictions, they're seen as saviors. What a crock.... Seeing the oppressor as the savior because they've opted to allow you to express a little more of your liberty, that they never had the right to restrict in the first place.

Despite the new rule changes, we can easily assume that there are still going to be many people left who won't be able to access cannabis without risking being labeled a criminal for doing so.

Things are getting weird here with four days left till legalization. There is a lot of fear mongering and rumours. Some local dispensaries say they are being forced to close while others say they have a full year to comply with new regulations.

One shop told me that after legalization, all their current stock would become Illegal. The fellow laughed and said "Well it's already illegal now, but after the 17th it will become illegal in a way they actually care about!"

I took this to mean that he had paid no tax on his current stock. It's all about supply chains and taxes - and big corporations trying to squeeze out the small vendors. In other words, business as usual with billions of dollars on the line.

sounds like it isn't going to be what people expect it to be

The powers that believe they be don't care about the people, they only care about maintaining and expanding the status quo of power, profit, and control. They don't have sympathy or empathy for the people because if they did they wouldn't be doing what they're doing.

but...they said they cared?

The British government always have a hidden agenda and sugar coat things. But this is a shade of green. Plus it will hopefully bring the argument into the forefront more so we can have a proper debate about it. A step in the right direction I say 💯🐒

I believe we should all have the right to put into our bodies whatever is helping us and no one should have the right to stop us.
If the cannabis is helping in a drastic way or any way, there should be no approval of pharmaceuticals or government or anyone.

I upvoted your post.

This cannabis remains a very controversial issue, I believe that if cannabis is a cure for really important diseases this should reach those patients who really need it, with a proper medical authorization ahead.

And if the cure for cancer were cannabis?

Not only in the United Kingdom, but also in the world should take into account their medical recommendation

This topic of cannabis is very important and interesting @doitvoluntariamente is a medicinal plant and I have seen today more than ever, a few days ago I was traveling with my mother and went to where an uncle who is brother of my mother and he asks Mom how it felt because I saw her exhausted from the trip were 8 hours on the road, my mother suffers from lupus and arthritis she was very sick with the pains so big that she was almost unable to walk from the pain and my uncle told her I tried the cannabis that he had at home prepared with white liquor and liquefied the leaves with that then he put it in the bottle and gave it to my mother to be applied superficially and it is amazing how it has alleviated the pain that she I am surprised, as well as she also those suffering from cancer etc has lent them

@doitvoluntarily is embarrassing how to play with the health of people, these things I will never understand
thank you very much for spreading this news dear friend
I wish you an excellent weekend
