At The Cemetery
I can't even remember when was the last time I've posted cemetery photos but it's never too late, here I am with a few more photos for my dear friend @melinda010100.
This is a family grave protected with a fence. It's not very common around here but you can find a few in old cemeteries that are not crowded. I can understand why people choose to protect their graves with a fence, it's a measure for privacy.
Another old family grave, dates back to 1800 or so. This headstone is huge, must be more than 2m tall. When this stone was placed here, those were different times, wealthy people could afford more than others. Nowadays you can't get a bigger place even if you're paying.
The first person buried here died in 1851. Looks at that stone, look at the decoration. It's amazing.

Great cemetery photos! I do love the carving on that last stone from 1851. It is a very elaborate and beautifully carved. You just don't see them like that anymore.

I knew you would like it. It is beautiful indeed and I agree with you on the fact that you don't see stones like these any more. Usually there are a few types and people choose one or another. It requires an artist to do such a word and these stone makers are most likely not artist. No offense. And let's not forget the costs.
Good thing these stones are still in place and I have a chance to document them.
They were made by craftsmen, and stone carving has become something of a lost art, probably because no one can afford it, like you say.
Unfortunately you're right, stone carving has become something of a lost art, especially now when people are cremated and the ashes are spread who knows where. I'm curious to see what's going to happen with this new human composting method. Is it going to be successful?
I am so disgusted by that composting term that I can hardly think about that.

That is a amazing beautifully decorated head stone image the price of that today you would have to sell your kidneys....lol:)
Well said my friend, that's a real artwork, not just a simple stone and art is not cheap, but at least this one is beautiful.
Thank you my friend just wish we could have them these days , you think after been on this earth so long and supporting our country the burials should be free with a nice headstone supported from the governments after paying all them taxes but it aren't never going to happen..lol :)
That would be very good but we both know that is never going to happen. Governments these days don't have enough money to run their own business. Unfortunately badly managed projects and funds used for other purposes than should be makes this remain a dream :)
