Get To Know Me - Compilation of my Steem History

in #challenge6 years ago

I was introduced to this challenge by @bozz, but it seems that the challenge has already ended, after I'd read @anomadsoul's post. Nevertheless, I'm still going to publish this post, since I had promised it to @bozz. I just won't nominate anyone new.

My first introduction to Steemit happened back in July 2016, but I kinda forgot about it and only started publishing content in January 2018.

My introduction post featured the same picture that I've used for this post and it's also my profile picture on my main account. I actually think my first post was pretty good, since it's fairly well written, contains multiple original pictures and I had put some time & effort into it.

1. Hello Steemit!! This is my first post and I hope to write many more!

Since I was still basically new to the platform, I really had no idea what I would be writing about.

At that time I thought that I would get into building some terrariums & paludariums , but that didn't end up happening. I chose to write articles about a much different range of topics.

2. Fosdem 2018: Great atmosphere and lots of goodies!

This is my earliest post that I'm actually very proud of, my 9th post ever on Steemit. Here I wrote a lengthy post about my trip to Fosdem, an Open-Source software conference in Brussels.

That proved to be a topic I would write many more articles about and it's also something that gives me the greatest amount of fulfillment, because I'm so passionate about it.

Mind you, this was all before I even knew that @utopian-io existed, so I had no idea that you could even get paid for contributing to Open Source software projects

3. Cross-country skiing in the Belgian Ardennes

Another post which was pretty good, this was the first real travel post that I published. Yeah it's traveling in my own country, but travel nonetheless.

I like this post, just because it's not really an every day activity, at least for me it isn't. Some people might not even know what cross-country skiing is, so this post is a pretty good introduction for them

4. Date Night: Out for Mexican Food in Leuven!

I've done quite a bit of restaurant reviews here on Steemit and this was my first in depth one of a local Mexican restaurant.

It's also a little bit more personal than usual, because it was a date night for me and my girlfriend. The food and drinks were really great, I still remember that!

5. Let's Talk About Universal Basic Income

This is easily one of my most favorite posts. I'm very passionate about discussing Basic Income and in this post I've spent a lot of time researching all the different basic income projects.

I still get a lot of e-mails from people who've found that post of mine through Google, so I'd say it's also one of my more successful ones. I still write about Basic Income from time to time.

6. Tales from Bitcointalk Forum - Lending in The Early Days of Bitcoin #1

This is not the average crypto post you would see on Steemit. This series of mine is really personal to me and it tells the story of my time on the Bitcointalk forums.

I remember being annoyed with all the low-quality crypto posts on Steemit, so I decided to start this series, where I talk about the famous Bitcointalk forums.

7. Meetup in Leuven with @joythewanderer - Beer Tasting at The Capital

A post about my first meetup with another Steemian, @joythewanderer. We had an amazing time at the largest beer café in town, trying many different kinds of beer.

At that point, I was really amazed at how easy it was to meet new people through Steemit. I certainly hadn't thought that I would get into a live meetup so soon!

So, these were 7 of my most memorable posts from the past. I'm pretty proud of even my earlier ones, since I did put in a lot of research into Steemit before I started writing.

It kinda stings that I didn't start writing back in 2016, I could easily have been a whale by now. It's no use to dwell on the past though, I'm happy that I started writing when I did. I have a pretty nice Steemit history to look at now!

Special thanks to @eonwarped for his Steem Post History Tool & of course to @bozz for nominating me for this challenge!

Awesome post! Thanks for taking part in the challenge even if it was over. I remember some of those posts! :) Good stuff. It is cool to go back and look at some of your older stuff too. You and I have been active on Steemit for about the same amount of time though.

Yeah it was fun reading all these old posts again. They were a bit better than I expected. Thanks for inviting me to this challenge!

That is so interesting! I joined Steemit in August 2016. I didn't feel comfortable there, and didn't really "get" how it worked, so I never got round to posting - until YouTube started imposing various restrictions, and I heard about Dtube and took another look. So it was November 2017 before I started posting. I hadn't heard about anyone else who had done that type of thing. We're still early adopters though.
I also was interested in Bitcoin way back – in 2012, in fact, but I didn't buy. I did buy Ether in the crowdsale, but I sold too early. I was intending to buy it back, but never got round to it - honestly, you'd have to be psychic or just very lucky to have spot-on timing with these things.
I remember reading a couple of these posts (and commenting on them!). The first one was the cross-country skiing one. That is definitely on my bucket list! One I missed was the Fosdem post. That's something I'd never think of going to, but it looks really good fun.

Oh have we known each other that long? That cross-country skiing post was so long ago, but now that you mention it, I think you did comment on that one (without looking at the comments, I swear :D ).

Edit: Okay, just checked and indeed you have. That's already 8 months ago, WOW!

I was amazed at that too. Time flies!

Oooo I am defo checking out that basic income post, I really don't understand it all but it sounds like it could be something really good!

I really enjoyed the Tales from Bitcointalk series, it really painted a picture of the crypto community before the explosion of money. It seemed to be a place of idealists and hope, before the idea of making a quick buck took hold...

Thanks! I don't think it was ever that popular, but that series was definitely one that I enjoyed writing. Really nice to hear that you enjoyed reading it!

I have a friend who was around near the beginning as well, and he describes it in a similar way!
