RE: A question to me from a member of a Catholic Church about the "Trinity"

in #christian-trail6 years ago

"Biblically, there is one God the Father, there is the Son, and there is the Holy Spirit. But for him to say, one God, three persons, there is no such thing in the Bible."

But how many sons are there?
Luke 3:38 "Which was the son of Enos, which was the son of Seth, which was the son of Adam, which was the son of God."

Then we have:
John 4:24 "God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth." If God is spirit then is it not redundant to say "Father, son and holy spirit"? Its just like saying GOD, God and holy-GOD. I don't think father and son are one "person" even though they are one (family). Obviously there is a distinction between them. But what about the holy spirit?

It was given to Adam when he was created. "He breathed into his nostrils the breath of life" something similar in John "That life was the light of men". So in a way God is saying every living man has this breath of God in him? Maybe we shouldn't assume that. So, if we limit the number of people who receive the holy spirit it would come down to Adam, the patriarchs (from Seth down to Noah to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob), Judges, Prophets, Priests and Kings and finally Jesus who spread the spirit to his disciples.

Does that mean the rest of us don't have the holy spirit? No. Acts 10:44 "Even as Peter was saying these things, the Holy Spirit fell upon all who were listening to the message."

I think the holy spirit is the knowledge of God, as God is Spirit and a spirit of Holiness, Truth and Life (way, truth and life) simply by preaching it you spread the holy spirit. May be a brutally simplified conception but it makes sense to me. Adam had intimate knowledge of God since he was his father, literally. Adam told his sons about God - some of them actually kept the knowledge and passed down to their sons and so on. Jesus had the same knowledge as Adam only he knew God for ever while Adam only knew him a little while. That's what makes the bible special - we get to learn who our true father is from his most beloved son.

Great response! You understand my point!

Thanks for the response @lafferin. The knowledge of God you mean? There is written in the Bible the power and the wisdom of God. Let us read.

1 Corinthians 1:24
King James Version

24 - But unto them which are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God, and the wisdom of God.

You have understanding @lafferin! Thanks be to God...
