Hunter’s Tree Farm

in #christmas5 years ago (edited)

Tucked away in a quiet corner of Northeast Seattle is one of the city’s most iconic Christmas mainstays - Hunter’s Tree Farm.

Hunter’s Tree Farm

The tree farm occupies a vacant lot in Seattle’s Wedgwood neighborhood from the day after Thanksgiving until Christmas Eve. From the lot pre-cut Christmas Trees are sold. Available varieties include Noble, Grand, Douglas and Fraser Firs, Norway and Blue Spruce, and Pines. Hunter’s also sells cedar garland and Christmas wreaths.

Entering the lot. Some years reindeer reside in this portion of Hunter’s.

The trees themselves are grown two hours southwest of Seattle at Hunter’s Farm in Union, Washington. The farm is family owned and began as a dairy. In the late 1940’s William Hunter and his wife Carol took over the farm from William’s parents and began the transformation from dairy to Christmas tree farming.

In the 1950’s the Hunter family began wholesaling trees to a nursery in Seattle’s Northgate neighborhood. Tree sales were so successful they eventually decided to sell directly to the Seattle market. During this time the family set up shop in the Wedgwood neighborhood. Hunter’s Tree Farm has operated from their current location since 1959!

Noble Firs

Growing up we bought our Christmas tree every year from Hunter’s lot in Wedgwood. My parents alway got a Noble Fir for the family’s tree. At some stage (when I was too young to remember) my parents started to buy me my OWN tree for my bedroom. We got this at Hunter’s as well.

Wreaths and tiny trees.

As an adult I eventually made the transition to a fake tree. However, I still love going to Hunter’s Tree Farm so soak up the scent of freshly cut Christmas trees. I also make sure to buy a wreath from Hunter’s every December.

I miss having a live tree, it smells so nice in the house, and it's so fun to pick out a tree! My parents had one every year. Like you, as an adult I switched to fake, I thought it was a waste to the environment but we do get a much smaller table arrangement to still have the smell tho. Thanks for posting :)

I miss a live tree too! We ended up getting our fake one when we lived in Australia, so it just seems right to use it since we have it. But some years I think about buying a tiny tree just for the wonderful smell!

go to a greenhouse and get a Christmas centerpiece, still get the smell and it doesn't waste the whole tree nd they are very pretty, you can move it around in whatever room you are in. Ours tends to stay alive for over 2 months but we take good care of it.

Very sweet place, looks like a scene out of my Xmas hallmark movies (don’t hate), pirates can be softies 😛
Your wreath is lovely!

Ahhh... Hallmark movies. 😄 This week we watched TWO on Netflix. Both involved regular girls meeting princes from fake Eastern European countries and having Christmas weddings. The tree farm is exactly like that. 😉
