Sunday Drive To a New Watering Hole, Craft Beer

in #craftbeer5 years ago (edited)

Looking to take a Sunday ride in the countryside, we set our sights on Good Nature Farm Brewery, which is located in Hamilton, Upstate NY. The name of this joint could not have been any more fitting, as the entire complex was built in a cow field, with milk cows grazing just yards from the establishment.

What an operation they had, and only 26 miles from our home. Initially I had a hard time comprehending how a brewery out in the middle of the woods could survive.
After getting settled in and ready to have a couple of cold ones with lunch, I asked a couple of questions to the young lady that came to our table.
Here, we were only minutes from Colgate University. That immediately answered that question.

The tuition at Colgate is 55,870. I guess if Mom and Dad can afford to spend that kind of loot, what's a couple more bucks for beer.

This masterpiece of a brewery was fabricated right in Syracuse NY, which is only around 30 miles away.

We started with a flight of beer, which consists of five, 5 ounce glasses of nectar. The gentleman with his head on the table is my best friend Pete. He is the funniest person I know, dry witted, in the case wet witted.
We tried the Blonde Ale, nothing special.
Sessions IPA described as Non-stop Hop Onslaught, which had a pronounced citrus flavor.
Blight Buster IPA 6.2% ABV, aromas of tropical fruit and listed as a Gold Metal Winner, boy was that tasty.
Annie Double IPA 8.5% ABV, This beer was described as dangerously drinkable and Award Winning
Sheep of Heaven IPA 7% ABV
Being that I was the driver, I needed to take it easy, and had one more beer with our lunch. I ordered Annie, which for my taste was the best of the bunch.
Got a four pack to go, 16 ounces of God's Nectar per can, $15.00, a little pricey.

Being a wood worker, this piece of 1/4 sawn Black Walnut caught my eye.

In the far corner of the joint were a couple of musicians that were playing when we first entered, but were packing up by 2.00 o'clock.

The decor was very warm, and I walked away with a couple of ideas for some wood projects. Check out the bar.

For lunch we had a wood fired Margarita Pie, Tacos, Loaded fries, and of course I couldn't resist getting a burger. All of the food is locally sourced. My wife was disappointed, as they were out of the chicken wings, which were advertised as the best in the area.

Snapped a couple of pics of the place as we left.

Being that this brewery is in the middle of nowhere, they have enough acreage to have a very expansive outside area for the warmer months. A stage has been constructed for live performances.

Hell, this outfit even has it's own silo for storage of the grains used in the mash.

Passport 2.0, what a great marketing idea. This passport has the listings of over 30 establishments. Ten different Craft Beverage Producers can be found in this little book. Other establishments participating in this program include Bed and Breakfast places, Restaurants serving locally crafted beer, and specialty bakeries. As you visit each place you receive a stamp in your passport, and each vendor offers the passport holder special discounts.

Yes, I love food and drink tours like this. That brewery looks pretty neat and probably a welcomed hangout in such a country looking area. I, too, hate when the restaurant is out of something I have my appetite up for. Especially when I’m already going all out on French fries and stuff and figure I’ll go back to “healthy eating” manana but then they say “sorry Pura- we are out of falafel”. That’s the worst! Haha

Looking forward to the other stamps in your passport @thebigsweed 🥳

It should make for a couple of good adventures, trying to fill up the passport. You guys sound like you're getting a couple of new stamps in your passport as well.
Stay safe!

We hope to get many more :). Food adventures are some of the best adventures in my book 😉
