Hey guys... I needed to share something with you, and ask your opinion on something.

The Facebook Dilemma, Part Two (broadcast stream) | FRONTLINE

This is the second in a series detailing the abuses of FB by various groups, as well as the abusive nature of FB in general... And something occurred to me.

I've been using Google+ for years to display galleries that I curate as part of my work. I have a link to it on my steemit masthead. I was very disheartened when I found that G+ is going strictly industrial in a year, because the community there is much better than FB, and moving 10k+ images is going to be a daunting task.
I'm still trying to figure out whether I should use Tumblr or Pinterest for that...

But one of the things that G+ users have always enjoyed is that it's a bit more of an adult space, largely in that Google doesn't share the FB predilection for wetting it's pants when nipples are shown. Porno goes straight out the window, as is right and good (I am a most zealous censor as regards to that) but as long as it's tasteful, nobody really cares.

Art is art, and humans are beautiful beasts, after all...

It occurred to me that if G+ were to simply modify the "safesearch" features that already exist as part of it's regular search engine protocols, it could very easily create a security system similar to that of EVE: Online. A "High security" space, which is all G-rated "Mom and Apple Pie" as is Facebook; and with a bit more work, heavily fact-checked. It likely wouldn't be very difficult for them.

And then a 'less secure' space wherein more adult oriented, yet still PG13-ish posts could be maintained. This area would be less heavily checked, more free-speech oriented, yet clearly de-marked as such; much as in EVE: Online.

Then perhaps, if Google has the balls to market itself as a social media outlet for grownups (it could happen) they might be able to cause a bit of a stir...

And while I certainly want to promote Steemit and the blockchain; it seems that this could be a way of disrupting FBs' stranglehold on Social Media; a way to introduce a great amount of disquiet among the giants, and delay their ability to create a crypto-based social media alternative.

In short... we set the titans at each other's throats, and gain bonus time to solidify our own position.

Any feedback on this would be highly appreciated.

I used Google+ for a while. Early on. I tried tweaking it once to see if I could hone in on a better and more optimal content delivery for myself and, in doing so, lost contact with someone I was developing a pretty good rapport with. That told me that allowing users to pick their own content mix, at least the way Google was doing it, wasn't necessarily a good idea. But, and here's the kicker, it's still a better idea than how Facebook does it.

Gotta hand it to a post that uses "balls" and "nipples" in one read without making me reach for a Kleenex.

I do what I can. I definitely prefer G+ to FB, not least because I can actually use it for a purpose, rather than a surrogate television. In many ways, that's what FB has become.

That is very true.

Some interesting thoughts you have here. I'm sure Google could certainly put together a social media site, especially using the foundations of G+, as you mentioned. I haven't really used it that much, so I don't know how all it works though. If they're moving strictly industrial, then they are making more money from it - and that'll be a hard ball to change directions if you sought after such. Regardless, Google is the largest data miner in the world, I'm not sure I would ever want to take part in such as a social media website. I've deactivated my FB long ago haha.

It's actually really simple to use, and is quite big in southern Eurasia. It just never saw widespread adoption in the US, therefore they're wimping out.

Swing by my page (link at the top) and you'll see. It's mostly a place of galleries and interest groups. But until Steemit came along, it was pretty much my Haven from FB, where I could pursue my work without freaking out my family.

Make no mistake, I'm certainly not suggesting that anyone leave Steemit for that place. But the fact is, that FB has already bought one of the larger crypto exchanges, and could stomp us flat with the assistance of the MSM if they wanted.

But it would cost them billions to even begin to address a threat of this nature, and slow them down quite a bit. Even if they won, many people would start to wonder "what else is there"?

In the meantime, we'll be refining Steemit, pushing out more apps, taking more market share...

It's just a thought. 😈

Wow, cool to meet a G+ user in the wild (I knew there are some small communities but definitely very small)! I'm not in G+ or FB (much) because I'm not a social media person. But here I am lol....

As far as Google goes, are you suggesting Google to try to pick at Facebook while maintaining the G+ community so that both G+ and Steemit are up and sort of dilute FB's power? (And you get to continue using G+ :))

Yeah I don't really see it happening though.

As far as that video goes, it's quite crazy just how much of a role Facebook itself has on many global events... Wow.

Yes, that's precisely what I was suggesting. With FB eating our posts, it's clear that they already see us as a threat. My idea was as you said, divide and conquer.

I admit that it's incredibly unlikely, but it just tickled by fancy a little bit, ya know? =)

These are simple and classic
