What do we want ChainBB /f/cryptocurrency to be?

in #cryptocurrency6 years ago (edited)

A little over 20 days ago, I created the cryptocurrency forum on ChainBB. Other than give it this description:

Our place on the blockchain to talk about all aspects of how cryptocurrency will improve our world.

I let it be to see what would happen. If you're reading this on Busy or Steemit, please click over to ChainBB to continue reading.

Right away, I started noticing a bunch of junk posts. They were mostly just someone copying and pasting content from either https://www.cryptocoinsnews.com or https://news.bitcoin.com/. They would copy the images and the text and usually link to the article at the bottom.

IMO, this is basically just crap content filling up the forum. Few if any replies, no engagement, no value.

I wanted to deal with it right away, but I was off to SteemFest. Now I'm back, and I want to start currating this ChainBB forum. I really think this could be a go-to place for original cryptocurrency discussions and insight. I don't want a newswire, I want a forum for discussion.

So here's what I'm going to start doing. I'm going to hide posts in the forum which appear to just be copy/paste from somewhere else. I understand this may mean there isn't much content here to start, and I'm okay with that. Why? Because it gives anyone writing valuable content about cryptocurrency an opportunity to get noticed. I'll be watching and voting on things I think bring value to the forum.

What I don't want to see is more of this.

Over the past 7 days, here's what I see in the Cryptocurrency forum:

AccountNumber of Posts
@girlspgldh3
@openbull27
@mstpapi19
@mediavoice45
@pritam582
@huzaifa093
@sinzzer1

All of that, other than one post by @sinzzer asking a question about SMTs, seems to be just copy/paste junk from other websites. @huzaifa09 didn't even bother linking to sources, so that's just straight up plaigarism.

Is this the forum you want?

What if instead we just include valuable discussons about cryptocurrency?

After I post this I'm going to start hiding posts. Some may cry "censorship!" and get out their pitch forks to burn me at the stake while they see if I weigh more than a duck. If we want to have valuable discussions here, I think it's worth hiding content which isn't best suited for a forum. I'd rather see original content and if these authors want to have a place to copy and paste content from external sites, they can start their own forum for that purpose.

If they do that, I'll even link to it so people can find it.

Sound good?

Let me know what you think in the comments. I think we need more forums to talk about how cryptocurrency is changing the world and what better way to do it than on the STEEM blockhain while supporting a project like ChainBB?

then why dont you set the forum so that it only shows the articles that are written on chainbb?
that way you have a better control of who is writing what and the trash would not appear since they are mostly still writing on steemit.com
The posts there would be the people actually interested in participating in writing on the forum and did not mind giving away an extra 15% profit in exchange for decent replies and honest communication.

totally of topic but might interest you, I saw you have 60 buildteam on the list and they offer the option to stake them now
https://steemit.com/buildteam/@felander/passive-income-with-buildteam-proof-of-stake

That's how ChainBB works right now. Only root posts created by ChainBB so up in ChainBB forums.

Thanks for the reminder on the Buildteam token Staking. I've been meaning to look into that but I've just been too busy to look into it.

@lukestokes
you truly a great guy...will start checking out the tag in chainbb and send my valuable contents... i am new in crypto trading but gaining a lot already..as i use mainly hitbtc... do you use hitbtc? seems they updated their buy/sell options which am trying to learn...unlike the stop/ stop/limit...its different now...
most coins are in the red now and what do you think about Neo and Gas... and ICO's
thanks for sharing this...

Welcome, Ken. Hopefully you'll get a lot of attention if no one else is posting in this forum, even if your questions are from a newbies perspective. :)

I have a hitbtc account, but I don't think I've used it all that much yet. Maybe search for a tutorial on their new interface if it's confusing?

Neo and Gas look quite interesting. I bought some a while back but didn't sell when they went all the way up to $50. Someone described it as the Chinese ethereum and that definitely got me interested. If I do end up selling some, it will be with hopes to buy back cheaper, I think. I do like earning gas. :)

ICOs... man, no idea there. I've participated in a handful. Some give great returns and some don't. It's a risky play in an already risky space.

I hope that helps.

Sure it does, thank you very much for your response and yes, will definitely follow up the tag.

Yes, I had that same issue on my new UserHelp forum under # support there was so much junk so decided to have one tag focused.

What do you mean by tag focused? Did you end up hiding posts like I'm deciding to do? I'm curious what works for you.

I just read this in steemit,

And yeah, I am trying to find crypto opinion and what they are into, but when things go like what you describe, i think it does not add value at all!

And, I dont still get why I will go to chanbb, when I see it here in steemit?

Hi @albertvhons it can seem a little bit confusing I agree. I think the play is that people will post directly to ChainBB with the hope to get some activity around conversation there. It can still end up in your blog post.

Different interfaces to the STEEM blockchain have different purposes. There are many forums like bitcointalk.org, bitsharestalk.org, etc who want forums and steemit or busy is not what they are looking for. ChainBB is for them.

Me parece bien lo que esta haciendo, en ocultar aquellos que solo copian contenido, hay que darle valor a los que en verdad se esfuerzan por realizar un buen trabajo. Saludos amigo.

Gracias por darme ánimos

I agree with your thoughts. and I know it to be good for others .. and I will choose you as a witness

I think what you are trying to do with /f/cryptocurrency has a lot of potential, and I am particularly interested in your forum because I want want to learn more about cryptocurrency, and I also want more first-hand experience using both STEEM and ChainBB.

The spam seems like it is a big issue, and I'm not sure what the solution is. I am definitely in favor of hiding posts in your ChainBB (I do not view it as censorship), but that seems like a large burden to have to do that especially since you would probably be hiding a lot of bot posts and it is tough work to manually fight against bots (but I think it is worth it so your forum readers don't have to read bot like posts of little or no value).

I am thinking about starting my own ChainBB forum about a topic that I am interested in to help me learn more about the moderator features of ChainBB, and hopefully I'll have some suggestions as I learn more.

I plan to make an effort to add a new post and make some replies in your forum in the near future. I would like to see your /f/cryptocurrency forum grow into something nice.

What was nice about it? I'm genuinely curious if your comment was meant to add value to the conversation or...?

I like your photo

You look like a spammer leaving crap comments like that. Don't do that.
