They Said...

In 1999 the company I worked for started to put Medical Billing Codes online, and no one could understand why we were doing it. In the beginning, it was just a searchable database.

There were Coding books that medical coders used to look up codes. Each time the codes were updated, (Quarterly) the publisher would send out a copy of the changes on paper and an index guide so that those who needed this information could update their books.

We wanted to improve that process.

They said, "No one is going to use the Internet as a reference for Medical Billing Codes" At the time many Physician Offices didn't have a fulltime internet connection.

We gave a few local physicians free Internet and access to our database and we began to start cross-reference diagnostic codes and procedure codes for the State of WA.

They said, "It will be impossible to get the healthcare industry to change their ways"

We added a few more states and worked with our core customers to add the ability to reference historic code changes so the Billers could see what the rules were on the DOS (Date of Service)

They said, "This will never work in large offices with multiple billers."

We continued to build, gather feedback and adapt to changes in the industry. Other companies large and small began to copy us and we all grew.

In 2019 Nearly all medical records and the entire patient history is now online and few know how it got there.

In 2009 a small group of people said, let's make a currency on the Internet that can not be owned, controlled or hacked

They say, "It will never work"

Those who believed began to mine the token with computers

They said, "Governments will kill it"

Those early adopters found someone to sell them a Pizza.

They said, "This will only be used for crime".

Those early adopters kept mining fixing bugs, making connections, networks...

Others began to copy them.

They said, "It's fad, you will never get people to adopt it"...

I wonder when most financial transactions will happen in some form of Cryptocurrency?

Guesses?

We are here very early, the progress is slow... I believe there will be a time when most financial transactions happen with a cryptocurrency. I don't pretend to know which one.

What an exciting road to be on.

@whatsup,
Those early adopters sold thousands of first crypto currency to buy a pizza lol :D
Just imagine how things evolve and I feel DRAMA might be at the same cycle also!

Cheers~

This is definitely an exciting road we're on, here... and the best thing we can do for ourselves is just to stick with it in the long run.

A couple of months back I had a young fellow (friend of a friend) visit here, and even though he was (among other things) an investment banker, he opined that there was no question of whether cryptocurrencies would end up being mass adopted, only a question of when.

if innovators listened to naysayers... we'd still be rubbing sticks together to start fires

Haha, so true.

:)

Neat, I didn't know you worked at a company like that. So you were pretty early to the big internet boom, huh? Were you still working there during the dot-com bubble burst? If so, did that have any effect on business / client-relations?

I agree with what you're implying around cryptocurrencies. To be fair, there have been a ton of ideas & projects that spoke of revolutionizing certain industries that just ended up fizzling out [ hello, Elizabeth Holmes 😉 ], but I think cryptos & blockchains have been around long enough and have done enough that it's probably a safe bet they're here to stay.

...at least, I hope so, cause I got like my entire worth into various alt coins, chain projects, holdings, dapp development, etc. lol :^)

Are you already full in?

full in on crypto? Not technically. I still have fiat because my grocery store doesn't take BTC lol, but my entire business & working mindset is completely invested. I plan to do my part, how ever small, in helping popularize & utilize blockchains.

I want to live in a decentralized world :^)

Im on ur side :)

But am only around 10% in.
Im patiently waiting for months now for a real bottom..
Cant believe that should have been bottom..

Everyone always FOMOing. ^^

I want a biiig drop :D

We dropped quite a lot from the ATH so it's a real possibility that we're past the bottom.

lol I feel you on that one. I have some coins I've been meaning to exchange into STEEM but I'm just waiting for it to get a liiiiitle bit lower.

It seems I never have the funds to invest when the price is sitting at its lowest 😌

Because Medical Billing and Coding applications were specialty niche we were going through our fastest growth during the .com crash we were living large! :)

It was an amazing time. We got acquired 4 times in 6 years. It was amazing.

oh cool! Wow, 4 times! Did the constant acquisitions ever disrupt your workflow [ like with hierarchy reorganizing ], or were you able to adapt fairly quickly?

We had a lot of disruptions, each time some people were afraid of lay offs, it was pretty crazy work environment. I loved it. Until I didn't. :)

ah, that makes sense. Well, I'm glad you got to enjoy it for the time you did. I hope whatever you're seeking now is equally as enjoyable 😊

Most people don't get it, but they will
It looks strange and difficult, but they will get around it sooner or later
Slowly, slowly, and then doom! It is everywhere and everyone needs it.

Some people said, impossible and then some people on the other way said POSSIBLE.

Must be grateful we are arrived here very early :)

Paper money is on the way out and all transactions are moving digital anyway. It makes sense to have a better transaction system than what the banks are using and one which they can't control. We are all here because we believe in it and can see the fixes and improvements in real time. So interesting to follow.

Hmm. If we go by the same timescale as the medical info, then I guess that maybe most transactions will be made in crypto by 2029.

Posted using Partiko Android

It will take time but the timing is actually perfect as the generations continue to become more digital which would be the first step towards adoption.

What are: Medical billing codes? If I knew that I would be less distracted from what you try to say. 🙁

Posted using Partiko Android

They are alpha-numeric codes, that hold information on what illness or treatment a patient received. The insurance companies use those codes to determine payment for healthcare services.
