Chicken Things

Cream Legbar Chicken Things.jpg

The chickens are up and at em now!

I've received the funds from @makinstuff's enormous donation, and will be setting up this weekend to get more chickens! There'll be a fundition update at that point to confirm that I'm acting in accordance with my proposal.

The birds were really kinda stressed from the move at first. They were staying under the nesting buckets 100% of the time for the first couple days. Today they're getting used to the routine. Clyde has really stepped up as a rooster today! He went straight to foraging and trying the food scraps we've put out, After he tried them, he let the girls know that it's good to eat. Good rooster! They pecked at the comfrey some too.

We'll be working on giving them fresh forage from the yard so they get used to eating what they'll encounter in the garden.

Tonight when it was time to put them up, the girls were perfectly fine being held and carried. They're taming down. Clyde is a rooster, so he naturally isn't a fan of being carried and petted. But I still got in a chicken snuggle. I've really missed having chickens.

Here they are on their roosting bar. Check out those talons! These things must be part eagle. And the glare from the flash makes them look really upset about being disturbed...

All action for the good of all.

Glad they are settling in well. I hope Clyde is a good rooster for the flock in the long run.

Either hell be good for the flock, or he'll be good for the pot :)

Oak leaf bedding! Those birds are living the life!!!

Is that good? Pretty much all we have is oak. About 10% of the bags we collected are something else. Maple, hackberry, other stuff.

:D No idea if it's any good but it really sounds like some luxurious stuff, like hardwood floor in a home :)

Good point.

It kind of is hardwood floors. My chickens are living better than me!

When I grow up, I wanna be a permaculture chicken.

Yay for chickens! We finally got our new batch a couple weeks ago. Point of lay and so pretty. We are delighted that they are so tame! Nice to pop in to your homesteading posts again @nateonsteemit! Happy growing your flock

Beautiful birds brother and i really enjoyed you on the waves. I kept dropping out though so i missed a bit. Good luck getting your flocks back together!

Thanks! Here's another pic of em doing their thing yesterday afternoon. They're really attractive chickens.

They really are beautiful. I can't wait to get out to the country on my farm and get back to it. City living is shitty living as they say. 😁

It can be done in the shitty though. Granted, not in an apartment. We're in a neighborhood inside shitty limits here. More neighbor-friendly options for poultry are quail. Their egg production and growth rate are really astounding. I'd be in quail if I could talk the wife into it. Oh, and rabbits too! No eggs, but a breeding trio of meat rabbits can yield more meat in a year than a goat. Oh, you done went and got me started lol

Yeah i like about any kind of eggs.😁 And you're completely dead on about the rabbits. They make a lot of meat in a year. Also, that's really cool you're able to do your thing inside the shitty. I wouldn't have guessed it from your posts. Have a great day brother.

I just ignore the laws I don't like like any other free man would. Yeah, there's constraints here, but that's because a half acre won't sustain beef cattle 🤣 not because anyone told me I'm not allowed to. We'll get there one day, whether we're allowed to or not. ;)
