DATA: Chance encounter with a lucky small cap?

Randomly finding out about DATA

The other day a cute girl joined the BAT telegram group. It's rare in the crypto world so I made the joke:

"Are you a hacker? .... because the private key to my heart was just stolen".

😂 We started talking and from what I can tell she seems to work for a trading firm overseas. While others do the trading she monitors social media, especially Telegram, for any unusual activity on coins which may indicate an incoming pump or dump.

I figured if they were interested in BAT, a token I'm bullish on then maybe she would know of some other interesting coins. When I asked she told me DATA. I'm not one to get behind random coins but when I looked into it there are a few factors that made me consider this as a possible "lucky coin". (currently ranked #155 in marketcap)

Reasons I find DATA interesting

  • Adviser who was on Ethereum team
  • Working product in early stage
  • Corporate partnership with Nokia
  • Corporate partnership with Hewlett Packard
  • Small marketcap
  • Recently added to binance
  • Use case that makes sense

Passively sell the data you produce!

Here on the Steem blockchain we are very familiar with monetizing our data. Essentially we have taken the social media activity we were already producing and monotized it in some way.

So it won't be a stretch for you to understand the concept behind Streamr Datacoin.

DATA will do something similar but instead of social media data we can instead sell passive data. For example the Hewlett Packer partnership will focus on monetizing the data produced by your car. By collecting massive amounts of data manufactures can improve product quality. Thus allowing them to return some of that value to car owners who opt into sharing data.

The data marketplace already has an early version up and running. Below you can see several data-sets which can be purchased. This isn't pre-compiled data-sets either, it is constantly updating data streams. This means using machine learning purchasers of data can potentially find trends and coming events before they happen, all in real-time:

Connection with Jolla 💙

Something about me. In my past I was working on mobile apps for several different alternative platforms including:

  • BlackBerry 10
  • Firefox Phone
  • Tizen OS by Samsung

A big part of the dream we had in all of these ecosystems was counter-balancing the market dominance of Android and emphasizing open-source technology.

A giant in that space has for a long time been Jolla, a spin off of Nokia's Meego. Meego was a revolutionary open-source based OS that was shut down after Microsoft purchased the company and shifted focus to its own Windows phone.

BlackBerry 10 which was my main platform was nearly completely based off Meego. So you can say I'm very familiar with Jolla, their brilliant design, and emphasis on open-source.

That is why when I dug deeper into DATA I was very to happy to see they have the support of the former CEO of Jolla (now working on Zippe, blockchain phone) who has been supporting fellow Finnish company Streamr Datacoin from the very begging!

Thanks for reading. I'm not sure if this coin will take off and moon but it seems interesting ... I think there could be something there.

What do you think can/should we share and be rewarded for the passive data we produce simply by living our lives and consuming products?

oh yeah ... not financial advice :-)

I just wanna put that out there:"Tizen OS by Samsung" is the worst mobile OS on the planet in my opinion,I hate it ,I hate it, its the worst app store in the world. Btw this sounds really awesome and it makes sense. To see it in practice will be interesting, I think this is an incredibly ambitious project, but they seem to have some credible people on the team and in the right kind of business connections to make something like this viable,

So how did you even come across Tizen? I made a post with my experience.

Don't think I've ever met anyone who actually used the OS as a consumer .... except maybe on a smart fridge.

I have two friends who both have Tizen phones, a third had another phone, but upgraded now. The whatsap version in the Tizen store is waaaaay outdated and also none of them could join my wifi even though I typed in the correct password (really weird issue I could find other people on the internet on forums reporting a similar issue)
