at one time the Army and the marines did that. (The ChairForce and the Navy's higher standards prevented them from being accepted).

education is one thing, but indoctrination is pretty much the same thing. It would depend on your political or religious orientation.

That said, there are many useless degrees. Communications and General Studies are two that come to mind.
