RE: Half of American colleges

education is one thing, but indoctrination should be one of those few things regulated to prevent it.

I have three degrees, two of them engineering degrees. It's clear we need education. It's not clear at all how universities can defy all reason and raise tuition above the rate of inflation. It should be regulated to only be able to raise by inflation...

That said, there are many useless degrees. Communications and General Studies are two that come to mind. We should move toward more of the German model of apprentices. 50% of the Germans get an apprentice in anything from tool design, tool making to hair dresser or administrative assistant. Practical training is what most of our young people need to give them an actual skill set.

I have my 18 year old nephew and his 19 year buddy living in my basement. They don't have any skill except for being slobs. Seriously. I've never seen two messier young men than these two. But I will prevail in helping train them to be functional adults:)

at one time the Army and the marines did that. (The ChairForce and the Navy's higher standards prevented them from being accepted).

education is one thing, but indoctrination is pretty much the same thing. It would depend on your political or religious orientation.

yup...you're preaching to the choir.
