RE: Hope And Controversy: Ketamine As Depression Drug

in #dlike5 years ago

Thanks for the news link, but this smells of another lame attempt to medicate a condition that requires deep personal and psychological methods to heal.

I don't speak about depression lightly, but my own method was to do precisely the opposite of what everyone suggests - I went deeper into it ;-) I figured that any deep problem had a solution, so went on a quest, just like a game but for real. Meditation and dream practice helped, but they needed a focus - a mission. It worked... but most don't want to know about it! If anybody does then fire away.

Sort:

I couldn't agree with you more about the fact that medication is just a way to take away the consequences, but not deal with the cause. It's like driving your car, seeing that the little warning light for the fuel lights up and going to the shop to have them remove the little light instead of refueling your car, lol.

Personally, I have refused all medication, and I'm trying to work on the deeper psychological cause - but that's not a quick fix. I realize it will take time to get things worked out.

but they needed a focus - a mission.

What exactly do you mean by that?

I mean that the mind can do some extraordinary things, but it must be told that something is important - so important that it is working on the problem in the background, all the time. That's how sometimes an inspiration seems to appear from nowhere - it isn't really from nowhere, just that the inner process has found something worthy of conscious attention. A solution.

It is thus important to write everything down - to articulate the problem in as lucid a way as possible. To write down the good ideas and the dead ends, the experiments that look promising. For me it was a mixture of hypnosis, dream work, depth psychology and eventually Tibetan Buddhism - but they are all just names for techniques, some of which overlap in spite of having different vocabulary.

They all also require some level of mastery of both concentrated focus and allowing altered states to play themselves out. But without a driving force, even a blind confidence, then it is easy to wander round the labyrinth.

I just assumed there was a way out - and that it was probably not the same as the way in.
