What is the truth?

Some of you already know that one of my friends back home broadcasted the first show of his radio station on Friday. After a lot of work and preparation, Friday night was the launch of something very special.

It didn't disappoint

Why am I talking about this? Well, our topic for Drop in the Ocean this week is Context and I realized something interesting during the show which put context into perspective. Before we go into this any further, I'm going to share a song which I've been vibing out on this week. You may want to listen in for the rest of the post so you can see what I mean about context and the perspective I'm going to touch on.

A lack of understanding

isn't always a bad thing. Myself and a friend were listening to the radio show on Friday night and we started talking to each other about the obscurity of the music. It was different.

Different because you would never hear this on a typical radio station, but also different because it was music from all over the world. These guys pull out vinyl from the boxes, hear something unique and different, then they mix it up into something else on that level, time after time. They understand the journey that music travels and they piece tracks together in a way which excites, inspires and gets you moving!

I sent this message to my pal during the show:

When you sit listening to some music your own language, you don't get down with the rhythm, you get down with the narrative.

Remove language contextually, gain knowledge collaboratively.

When you can't understand the language, you've only got the rhythm and melody to lose yourself too. That's removing some context to a degree where you can only hear the truth. This eye-opener during the show brought something interesting too light for me and it made me consider how this same situation can be applied to the outside looking into BuddyUP.

The truth

Context is the message's meaning and the way it's understood. At times, that can change ever so slightly and it underexaggerates the true meaning. If this happens time and time again, the potentcy of the message dwindles and it loses its truth. It's the opposite of exaggeration and the context can become twisted.

We need the truth about BuddyUP out there, so even if the language is removed, we don't have to worry about the context it's said in. This will take some forward thinking and some deep consideration but it will be the most valuable piece of information for our community.

What is BuddyUP's truth?

Like @dreamsteem said I had to re-read this a few times, not because it's badly written or anything, but because that song was awesome!

With regards to music, I noticed at a young age I struggled to "hear" the lyrics of songs, I couldn't quite make them out so they were more like just another instrument. I think it's probably something to do with ASD, but I digress. It's rare I connect with the lyrical content of a song, but instead I find meaning in the song as a whole. In recent years, I've really gotten into ambient, sampled and lofi music which just seems to resonate with me.

I've only just been alerted to Mana Base, so looks like I've got some reading to do this afternoon! I am a big supporter of both UBI and blockchain technologies, so to see them combined so well is nice.

You have a real way with words, I'm looking forward to reading more from you.

that is so funny! I also tune out the lyrics most of the time! LOLOL i also just see it as another instrument!

My daughter goes INSANE when i start singing a song in the kitchen - the words are just whatever I think they are hahahahahahah

I often prefer my own versions :P

right???? so much more creativity.

I mean - come on...
ANYONE can sing things that make sense.

It take a special kind of person to pull off gibberish. hehehehe

haha you calling me special mate? :P

hahahahaha takes one to know one, right? LOL

and.... you callin' me 'mate'... as a female - right? ;)

cuz..... that I be.
:)

haha absolutely!

girls can be mates, but I think it's an english thing.

hahahaha i don't even begin to understand that LOL

but - girl mate, I be ;)

hahahaha yes.

glad to know you're a fellow member of the UK!

The song distraction seems to be a recurring theme haha! I'm glad you liked it though, it really helped encapsulate the message I was trying to put across.

That's interesting. It does sound like it could be to do with your inner mechanics but it's quite magical all the same. Being able to cluster together the music and hear it for all the different elements is something most would be envious of. I'm into similar types of music when the mood suits but my usual go-to at the minute is house or hiphop.

Here's a track you may like:

Mannabase is an interesting project! Hopefully you managed to give it a look.

Thank you for stopping by! I appreciate the kind words. Likewise for yourself @johngreenfield.

Wow, I'm listening to that track now. This is definitely something I could listen to more, I'll be looking into Burial & Four Tet this evening. I had to laugh at the top comment on YouTube; "No one has ever listened to this song just once." I feel that's probably true.

I did look into Mannabase, and I signed up with your referral link. I'm a big supporter of UBI. I don't know if you've heard of it already, but I've been signed up to SwiftDemand for several months now. It's the same concept, although maybe a bit erm... more streamlined? Basic? Something like that. They've recently held a token sale and plan on going full cryptocurrency, so definitely look into it if you have the chance.

I couldn't resist leaving a track for you:

This song is awesome! You're right, sometimes listening to music in a different language, or listening to someone speak with a different accent, helps us hear in a deeper way. 💖

it was awesome to see you today!!!! :) always fun to laugh with you my friend!!!! hehehehe

i hope the box' contents gave you a giggle LOL

It really is! There's such a good vibe from it!

Sometimes we just need to disconnect from what is comfortable and let our minds take us to a different, more enlightened self. That's when context becomes as one :)

Why would you tell me to listen to this song while reading??? LOLOLOL

i was jamming out to the song the whole time and had to go back and re-read your post like 3 times ehehehehehehe

Buddyup will be known for who we are... the context will follow us ;)

Hahahaha, my bad! I read it myself and I was distracted so I can't imagine how hard it was for you to read it!

You're right, we will be known for who we are, that's a good point :)

Being a percussionist for decades now, I really love this. Good stuff. Thanks for sharing @calumam

I'm glad you enjoyed it mate! I've been really enjoying a lot of the African tunes over the best couple of weeks since my mate plays a lot of them out. The percussions are also on point and a joy to listen to!

Thanks for stopping by @rovbertandrew! (Sorry for the late repy, I'm trying to use a couple days a week for replying right now)
