Why do you think there is so much hate and anger toward Vegans, and why are those who eat meat and dairy so threatened by the notion of giving it up?EcoTrain Question Of The Week.

in #ecotrain5 years ago

So last week we had a very easy, open ended question, but this week, well this week we are back to a very controversial one. Thank you @eco-alex for keeping us on our toes. I am sure that I will probably end up annoying or upsetting someone, which I really do not wish to do, but this is just the nature of how these things go.

When we talk about other people's life choices, we are being judgemental of them and for some they really see that as an attack on their person. Where lets face it, in this insistence it is the animals that are being attacked, that are being manipulated and killed. But hold on, I really didn't want to start on the wrong foot.

I have so much that I could say, about what we eat. I stopped eating meat 26 years ago. I first became vegetarian, when I actually really thought through what it was I was eating. Sure for the first 14 years of my life I ate what was given to me and never questioned where it came from. In my home, one never question anything, it was just easier and safer that way. That was, until a light went off in my head and the reality of farming hit home, that and passing a slaughter house and hearing the animals inside. Turning Vegan came later in my life.

But this is not about my journey, this is about how others react to my choices and the overall choices of Vegans around the world.

We live in a world where on the surface it seems like we have lots of choices, where we have free will. But when you dig a little deeper you discover that lots of people are being completed ruled by the media, by the establishment. These choices that they think they actually have, have been implanted in their brains at a very young age. Around the same time that they are being brained washed into believing that it is only through instruction that they can learn, that by obeying and following orders they will succeed in life.

For some, living a life where one has to make very little choices, is comforting. Everything is just laid out in front of them, all for the taking, it is just all too easy. I mean you just have to go into your car, drive to a store and buy all the food you need in one place. Easy right, convenient right, life is comfortable. You just don't need to think too much and that suits some folks just fine.I mean you can get mircowave meals or T.V dinners (which says a lot really) all ready to go, no prep needed and no need to even know what you are eating. Everything is taken care of.

But wait, hold on there, not all people are like that. Some people want to know what they are eating, they want to cook their own food. And then you have those people, those VEGANS who won't eat meat, who won't use anything that is made from animals. Now that there is extreme, too extreme for some folks, it is just, too much for some folk to handle. I mean if you really have to think about what you are eating and where it is coming from, to actually be informed all the time, then life ain't so comfortable after all. Better to just fight your corner rather that face up to what happens. What has to happen in order for you to get that meat on your table. Ignorance is bliss after all.

So Why would you want someone coming along and questioning your way of life, threatening your comfortable existence, an existence that is often quite complacent. I mean the world is ours to do with as we please isn't it? We humans are the ones in control, we are the masters.

And then those self righteous Vegans come along with their talk of animal rights, all this talk of suffering and pain. Why should I have to listen to that, I have worked hard to live the life I have, how dare they come and question that. Presuming they know who I am. We meat eaters are at the top of the food chain, we come first, we are above animals. They are here to serve us and our needs. And damn it meat tastes so damn good, (well that is what we are being told, all those adverts etc). Our world is one of dominance and that is what we do, we dominant animals.

I am of course imagining that this is how some meat eaters think, the ones that get so angry and direct so much hatred towards us Vegans. I mean sometimes people need to direct their anger at someone, they really don't want to direct it towards the ones who are in control and pulling all the strings. (that my friend would rock the boat way too much) And plus they can easily convince themselves that these Vegans are below them, cos after all, they do live in a world where being dominant is the nature of the game and carnivores always come out top. Just look at the animal kingdom, it's the lions that rule. Now that is an animal I can identify with . Those vegans are so weak and all too easy targets. And damn them, trying to make me think too much, who the hell wants to be aware in this day and age, good damn hippies.

Sorry I keep slipping into the mind of an angry meat eater, cos in some weird way I can see why they get so angry. Vegans really are questioning all they know and are threatening the comfortable life they have. How can someone, live comfortably if they feel guilty. Comfort and guilt do not go hand in hand. It's not even worth thinking about, so lets just block that right there.

There is already so much segregation within the world, it started off with race, colour, religion and now, now it's down to what we eat. I would love if everyone woke up to the reality of the world we live in, if people ate more consciously, if they just thought about who they are eating. But the reality is so so different. We are fighting amongst ourselves, with our eyes away from what is really happening. It is up to each of us to take responsibility for our actions, to really look at what we are putting into our bodies and who is suffering as a result.

I hate being preached to, I don't like when people get up in my face and I understand that no one wants things forced on them. But what about all those who have no voice, who are suffering in silence, don't they deserve to be heard. We are all animals. And some of us humans are the cruelest of all animals, is that really something to be proud of?

NIce job dear! Your meme says it all really,, brilliant choice! and totally agree with your conclusion..

thank you Alex, it sure is a good meme xx

I've been vegetarian for most of my life and really got a chuckle out of that first graphic. My parents still make dinners uncomfortable and act concerned for my health because I don't put any meat on my plate. (I am way healthier than anyone in my family but that is apparently beside the point!!)

Although I don't agree that being vegan is right for everyone (not everyone lives in a climate or has the resources that makes this possible) I do agree that complacency and the massive disconnect from food is a big part of the problem.

thank you lovely, I really would love people to be more conscious about what they eat, I am not out to change anyone but maybe just maybe show there is another way. And yeah that Gorilla really says it all, so much mis information and ignorance about what we eat and really so many people treat their bodies really bad it is so sad. I hope you are well xxx

Well said!
I totally agree that complacency and not really being conscious of what you are putting in your body or questioning any of it can lead down a slipper slope.
I believe everyone has the right to life their own life.
Oh and that misdirected anger - you hit the hammer on nail there!
Good take. thanks for sharing!

thank you ,@porters i always appreciate your feedback. I am the same I am not here to dictate how anyone lives their life, but maybe I can show something different and inspire some questions xx
