Learning Guitar: Maxim 3: Why B Tuned As 3rd? So Repeat Back to E

in #education6 years ago

This lesson shall conclude section 1 basic stuff referenced below before the public domain crap. Section 1 introduced important building blocks to this approach to learning guitar. We explored and classified how we might theorize people learn.

Then we moved on to discuss two perspectives for looking at the chromatic key and how this would help us navigate the fret board ascending frets, or by going across strings.

The Guitar is Tuned in 4ths in it’s ascending tone, or 5ths in reverse when descending tone. The only difference from this is the B string which is tuned as a 3rd, a half step lower—so it repeats back to E. This is why 5 string bass guitars are tuned

B, E, A, D, G

Violins and Mandolins are tuned in 5ths, in reverese. Guitars can also be tuned in different ways. It can be tuned in open g, where no frets having pressure applied rings true as a g major chord.

Anytime i tried tuning my 5 string bass guitar to the standard tuning of B E A D G always end up breaking one of the string..so i decided to tune to E A D G C. I want to know if it makes any difference.

I haven't really played a ton of bass yet sorry. I would check youtube and forums. Perhaps you are tuning the strings in too high an octive? I am not sure how common it is for bass strings to break? My theory is you tuned it in an octive too high. The basses I have had have always been 4 string too.

Nothing to say!!!
