A Social Evening

in #esteem5 years ago

My friend Annie has got a friend visiting from Thailand. She suggested that we all go out and have a meal, and she can introduce her friend to us.

Meson La Mezquita being one of her favourite local restaurants, we ended up there. Her first choice was the Tandoori restaurant, but her friend does not like Indian food. She doesn’t like the smell of Indian spices. Anyhow, so we all ended up at the Meson la Mezquita.

There were five of us. There was Annie and her two friends, Nee visiting from Thailand, Shenya from Russian, who is now residing in Benalmadena. Then there is Roger and I. As usual, we were the early birds and the restaurant was just beginning to open up for business when we arrived. Early birds get to have their pick of tables. We settled for our favourite table, one in the alley way under an orange tree.

It’s funny how if you like something, you keep going back to it – whether it is food or places. There are so many other eateries within walking distances, but we are not keen to try them all. A foodie will want to try them all and compare them. We are just happy to have a place where we like, and the food is good, to go to.

Annie’s friend Nee is a bit younger, and according to Annie she is a party girl. Her three days’ visit worn Annie out. Nee speaks with an Thai accent, and has trouble with some English and Spanish words. Something simple can come out rude, and that was cause for a lot of laughter that evening. Anyway, it was good to be out, have a meal with friends, and some laughter.

Nee and Shenya had the Gambas Pil Pil – prawns in olive oil and garlic. This seems to be very popular with the ladies.

Annie had her favourite dish Pollo Relleno - chicken stuffed with dates, bacon and cheese serve in a curry sauce with rice.

I like the Pollo Relleno too, but was determined to try something new. So I had the Cordon Bleu of loin, parma ham and cheese, with salad and chips. It was very nice.

Roger had Goulash Ternera - veal stew which he assured me was very good. It looked good.

Good food, good company and laughter... We all had a good evening.

Sounds like a great evening, and the food looks delicious. I think I would have joined the ladies in getting the prawns. I love garlic (though my wife hates when I eat it...it stays with me for days).

Yes Jon, it was a great evening. I enjoyed it very much.
I love prawns and I love garlic too, but when dining out, I usually go for something that I don't easily get.

That makes sense. I usually find one dish per restaurant that I like and keep ordering that. I did branch out last night and get a chicken quesadilla instead of my usual Cuban sandwich at Rincon Brewing. My wife changed from the quesadilla to a chicken wrap, and hated it. That, and her soft drink was flat. i told her she should have had a beer ;-)

How was the Chicken Quesadilla? Well, no more Chicken wrap then. 😊

I really liked the chicken quesadilla. It came with tortilla chips, guacamole and salsa. My wife got barbecue chips with the wrap and didn't like those either.

Another choice on the menu.😊

That all looks delicious and it sounds like you had a lovely evening!

They all are delicious. I guess that is why we kept going back. And yes, we had a great evening.

Sounds like you had a great time. We love to explore but we also like our familiar restaurants where you know what to expect. 😂 But when we moved Mauritius that had to change because now everything is new and we were forced to try new restaurants and new places. The food on the photos looks amazing!! Especially that loin and the prawns. Sorry for not being able to upvote your post as my VP is currently on the beach recharging the batteries after some hectic upvoting shenanigans. 🙄 😊

Hi @dkkarolien. Thank you for stopping by and taking a look. Chatting, drinking with friends over a meal is one of the simple pleasures in life for me. I enjoy that very much. We all had fun that evening. Good food, good company and plenty of laughs. Simple pleasures indeed.

It is good to try new places and new experiences. Maybe we are too old and set in our ways. We prefer the tried and tested to exploring new venues. We do that only when it is recommended by someone who has been and has good opinions of it. 😊

VP is always a problem. They diminished so quickly, so easily. And it is recommended that you keep it above 80% or thereabouts. Not easy indeed. They should do something about that. 😊 Anyway, no worries.

Note to self: do not read food posts when you are hungry!

haha... Thank you for taking a look. 😊

Well well well...you and your imaginary friends again. Which are over-rated anyway! lol. But the food looks and sounds good, I've never had any of it but I'd like to.

You will have to come to Benalmadena. 😊

Taking digs at my friends and I again. Ya, you do that - as long as it makes you happy. 😎

thank you sir Vincent! As long as what makes me happy, eating?
