Is there an Etiquette Guide for Steemit?steemCreated with Sketch.

in #ethics5 years ago (edited)

I tried to check "the official unofficial etiquette guide" here, LINK referenced HEREbut the page keeps crashing on me.

And then, good old @futuremind pointed out that I could see it here, LINK and it loaded instantly!

A few things that stand out are,

Capture_The_Flag_27.JPG

Simply flagging and vanishing is not really fair, indeed.

Another good one is,

Forgive_21.JPG

It can also make you look petty and immature. Part of being an adult is accepting the failings of others as well as our own.

And,

Witch_Hunt_18.JPG

It is particularly striking when the big guns (steem-rich) seem to go on the offensive against the steem-poor person:

And,

Capture_The_Flag_14.JPG

The flag issue is for posts which are harmful or abusive and should not be used as a dislike or downvote button. Don't like something? Post a comment explaining why or if you can't be bothered to do that or don't have the time MUTE THEM and move on.

Let me know if you agree or disagree with any of these Official Unofficial Ethical Rules/Guidelines/Suggestions!

You're allowed to upvote your own posts and I think it's mostly legal to use a small amount of bots but you might want to convert your Steem to Leo and use steemleo.com but it's your decision.

Thank you for the upvotes.

Can you please remove your downvote and do you have any money? ;) lol

Thank you for reporting this abuse, @slobberchops.

Just don't let t.r.a.f.a.l.g.a.r or l.o.r.d.b.u.t.t.e.r.f.l.y catch you self-upvoting!

Not sure I agree with a less than 50 word comment making more than this post by way of boosting. What do you think @logiczombie, is this appropriate use of the sharepool, or perhaps selfish behavior, knowlingly taking away from others due to greed? Or maybe he worked very very hard and is deserving of such a payout for this short comment? 🤔

HERE'S THE PROBLEM.

PoB, "DESERVE"?

I've checked the almighty-all-powerful-ALL-TRENDING page.

It's got everything these downvoters complain about. Thinly veiled advertisements for commercial media properties and paraphrases of news stories and peoples vacation photos AND (I can't believe they actually complain about this) long winded posts about STEEMIT, whinging about all the NEWBZ whinging about DOWNVOTES.

I've also checked the top upvoted posts by t.r.a.f.a.l.g.a.r and l.o.r.d.b.u.t.t.e.r.f.l.y and what do you think I found? Do you think I found insightful original content?

No, I found boring exercise logs that seem to be promoting some commercial product or service and a self-congratulatory rant about how "I made it to the top of the trending page without no help from nobody" and then some borderline homophobic post about how boys who wear makeup will grow up to be school-shooters.

WTF.

Is this the HIGH-QUALITY-ORIGINAL-CONTENT that "deserves" to be on the trending page?

I STRONGLY DISAGREE WITH THEIR OPINION OF WHAT IS "DESERVING", BUT I'M NEVER GOING TO DOWNVOTE THEM BECAUSE EVERYONE HAS A RIGHT TO THEIR OWN OPINION.

IF YOU DON'T LIKE WHAT YOU SEE, USE THE MUTE BUTTON.

I could use an analogy or two referencing what turning a blind eye does with things in this world, but with these capital letters and increasing font size, I cannot help but to wonder if you are yelling at me @logiczombie, and what is most bothersome about this to me, is the fact that I really do like you and want to see you do good here.

What I see, is a guy trying to manipulate you into using bid bots (bid bots which create an economic issue here regardless of flags to the receiver of the vote(s) because the bid bot owner still wins) will put you at risk for being flagged by the large accounts and make success here very difficult for you.

Bid bots can be looked at one of two ways.

  1. Promotion for visibility.
  2. Exploitation of a fundamental flaw capitalized on by the greed of bid bot owners.

When someone boosts a comment that is not going become "visible" to the trending page, and the comment likely took very little effort at all, then we can throw opinions around all day in reference to the legitimacy of this behavior, and call it censorship, but I do not see removing rewards that were taken by way of exploitation censorship. I see that is removing the rewards and putting them back into the pool for everyone else.

And sure, those big earners might be in the background laughing because they are getting a bigger slice as a result, but also the small earning posts will get a little bit more as well. This behavior takes from everyone, not just the ones who make more than many would agree they should be making.

My use of flags on this particular user is likely to continue. Look, if I see a woman being raped, I will not turn a blind eye, just as I will not turn a blind eye to seeing your rewards being raped on the steem blockchain with this kind of behavior. If that is doesn't make sense to you, then we do not think alike a single bit my friend.

I don't know if your giant letters telling me what to do is yelling, but I certainly do not like the approach @logiczombie, can we please maintain a semblance of respect towards one another, even if we do not agree on certain things?

Here's the other problem.

The more people who post and vote, the smaller each share becomes.

I'm "stealing" from you right now, simply by posting and voting.

The reward pool (including your fractional share) would be larger if I walked away from steem forever.

If we magically landed some big-fish off of youtube tomorrow that has over a million followers, steemit's existing 30,000 users will have their steemit-rewards-pool-percentage cut by at least 66% and many will be diluted down to almost nothing (below the minimum payout).

It's just like the Bitcoin miners. Fewer miners means bigger rewards (each gets a larger slice of the pie). Zillions of miners means tiny-if-not-non-existent rewards and only the largest mining-farms can afford to stay in business (business always creeps toward centralization).

Recruiting top-tier tallent to steemit would spell doom for the current top-dogs (as far as reward pool percentage), although it would very likely boost the value of steem back up above $1.00 USD (by boosting the market-cap).

So, they might be ok with that...

I don't hate or disapprove of anyone, I'm just trying to figure out what's going on by asking questions.

For someone so new here, you seem to understand Steem economics better than myself!

Nice moves!

Comical, this shit is comical 😂

You're pretty smart. You should get on steemleo.com

Thanks for the acknowledgement @mysearchisover :)

I do appreciate your input. I'm pretty sure his post would have earned more if he was allowed to promote it.

I did think my comment was pretty damn good though. Overall I think I have earned about 1 cent per post/comment if it makes you feel better. I think maybe 25 cents a day. Are you poor? If so maybe we can take up a collection for you at steemleo.com.

Here's a comment that sheds light on the situation. I might have made money on this comment for now but the gestapo might be coming for me.

https://www.steemleo.com/@mysearchisover

Do you support bigotry, censorship and centralization of Steemit?

I did send him a small bot upvote. Hopefully the SS people don't downvote his post because of it.

What does my financial status have to do with what I see as an abuse on the blockchain?

There are plenty of poor people on the chain, much poorer than I am, and I would rather see sharepool allocation going to accounts by way of upvotes from others. In other words, earned, not taken because you feel your comment was "pretty damn good". I see bid bots as an exploitation to steal from the sharepool.

It's ok if you disagree buddy, we're all entitled to an opinion. You won't see any upvotes or downvotes from me. I can't speak for the accounts that are combating this type of behavior. You can call it censorship, but let's not pretend we both do not know what you're doing here. Taking rewards away that you took from the reward pool is not censorship. Downvoting for no other reason but to censor you is censorship.

Keep taking, the poor will stay poor here I'm sure, because of self entitled behavior like this.

EDIT: After seeing you boost comments to the moon that are simply links and nothing more, I am definitely going to downvote a parasite like you. You can call it "censorship", stealing from the limited sharepool, while there are truly poor people here trying to earn a living. People like you make me fucking sick.

Every time you downvote, you are kicking that person's coins into the grid-pit.

All the coins from the grid-pit get collected by the conveyer-belts and proportionately dumped into the buckets that didn't get kicked over.

The number one benefactor of all this bucket-kicking is g.o.o.d.d.r.e.a.m who makes roughly 3 times the average of the top 20 earners. The number two benefactor of all this bucket-kicking is, and I found this shocking, none other than s.t.e.e.m.c.l.e.a.n.e.r.s LINK TO TOP 10

That's why you always hear distant laughter when you give someone an upvote that doesn't meet the minimum payout or on an old expired post... It just falls through to the grid-pit to get scooped up by the top "earners".

You want to make change around here right?

If that is the case, then why do you take the effort to talk in ways which will not tag @steemcleaners and @gooddream, and all the others that you speak so lowly about?

What is the fear, you can simply mute them and look the other way right?

Overall I think my posts are way underpaid and undervalued.

Do you need money? I apologize if that sounds mean but some of the things on here seem strange.

https://steemit.com/appreciator/@appreciator/important-changes-to-use-appreciator
I think it "earned" at least 10 times what my average blog post made with using bots maybe even 100 times.

I think we need better leadership on Steemit but fortunately we do have some on steemleo.com.

FYI Steemit is somewhat of a ponzi scheme. 99% of accounts will earn hardly anything at all. If you are on Steemit purely for the earnings I think you should re-evaluate things. Originally I thought there was some potential for earnings on Steemit and maybe their was for me but yeah.

Did you read my comments? I spent like 1 Steem which is like 15 cents on this comment. Maybe I got lucky with the bot but still. What was my net earnings like 16 cents? lol You think 16 cents is an excessive reward to help someone.

I may have overly promoted a couple of my comments but I was doing a PROTEST!!! lol

After over 12,000 posts/comments on the Steem blockchain I think I should be allowed to overly promote one or two comments which was done as a protest.

I'll probably protest some more but I might need to use some Steem to buy Leo.

zOIks, you might want to ease back on the ad-hominems!!

I think it is better now. I might have been a little fired up and been trolling "a bit" much. :) lol

Did you even read my comments? I'm not so sure your reading comprehension skills are that great.

Very well, I'll refrain from engaging with you from here on out since you have now insulted my comprehension skills.

I'll probably protest some more but I might need to use some Steem to buy Leo.

Best wishes to you.

Did you downvote my post because of the pic? I took it off.

I also modified one of my comments that you downvoted.

Please let me know if you see any issues with my blog and or comments.

I got a little backed up and confused I think Steemd is better than only going by replies but I was busy. I assume the pic was why you downvoted the post? If so please remove it.

I'm not sure if I should apologize or not?

I have made LOTS of comments since yesterday so I think this thread is pretty much DOA. :(

If you figure out what I was talking about please let me know. lol

I did modify the comment. Thank you for not downvoting that comment. If the image was what was wrong please consider removing your downvote.

Best wishes to you too. Usually I think my posts and comments and threads are great but even after editing yeah. :( #lost lol

Oh yeah good point. I try and avoid any trending stuff to stay safe.
Were you going to use any bots on this post? There is a .02 payout threshold FYI and right now this post will not get paid out.

FYI you can use the Steemleo tag to earn Leo tokens.

I added you to my upvoter but you might have to use a tiny amount of bots if you want my upvotes to count.

@steemflgrewards please remove this downvote

No. We live in anarchy ;)

@logiczombie, here is an example of abuse on our blockchain. Do you think this was misuse of flags? I sure don't. And it's for reasons like this that flags exist here, because of exploitation from people who call removing stolen rewards from a limited sharepool "censorship." Be careful who you befriend here, snakes like to twist words to suit their narrative.

I'll tell you why he's encouraging you to bid bot. (While adding you to his autovote), It is because you get very limited rewards right now, and he will reap nice curation. He's a snake, and he's no good for our system here, and he will continue to be downvoted. I will see to it that he gets my downvotes, for his manipulative tactic he just tried to pulled on a new member like yourself who's trying to earn with hard work, and also, for the rewards he's stealing from all of us. They will be redistributed into the sharepool from the downvotes.

Welcome to Steem, one hell of a crash course eh?

Eh, why don't you just mute their account?

If you didn't have a paid vote on your post, I would have given you a real one.

As @mysearchisover correctly states, You're allowed to upvote your own posts, though voting your own comments is frowned upon and will get you flagged.

I think it's mostly legal to use a small amount of bots, is your decision but the larger the vote the more unwanted attention it will bring you..

I wont downvote your post as you seem new and dont know much yet. That guide you are using is out of the ark! There doesnt seem anything recently to use so I can sympathise.

I use this link for downvotes, it explains why the post has been downvoted.

..and just to clairify.. I have NOT downvoted your post.

Welcome to Steemit. Where downvoting is generally frowned upon unless you are not expecting a return and want to promote something.

Check my activity. I did not pay for a vote. Someone else paid for some minuscule meaningless worthless upvote. I have no control over how other people decide to waste their steem.

Here's a screenshot of the CRIME. Perhaps you should check the public record before FALSELY ACCUSING PEOPLE.

Capture_paid_vote.JPG

Capture_paid_vote_detail.JPG

Did you even read what I posted?

..and just to clairify.. I have NOT downvoted your post.

I upvoted one of your other posts too, sheesh.. 'how make friends and influence people'

Thanks for the false accusation.

If you didn't have a paid vote on your post, I would have given you a real one.

No accusation toward you, nothing else to say. Simmer down, I'm not on your case at all.

I'm sorry. I didn't know he would do that. :( lol

Thanks for the fair warning.

Maybe a new etiquette guide is needed, I'll see what I can do.

Welcome to Steemit.

I meant it.. no sarcasm, we need new people, just be careful who you pick as a mentor. Some are better than others, no names mentioned.

Are you ok? Who else do you follow?

So what was my net profit on that bot bid to reward good content.

I apologize for the financial harm that I caused to you and the rewards pool but hopefully you can get over it. lol

I feel your opinions regarding Steem etiquette are pretty well rounded and align well with my own.

It is particularly striking when the big guns (steem-rich) seem to go on the offensive against the steem-poor person:

Yes, if a person is obviously copy/past plagiarizing or obviously vote farming, and will not stop, this might be grounds for continual flagging, because the sharepool is limited, and it is taking from the people who are genuinely putting in work to earn a piece of the pie, but disagreement of context downvotes is suppressing free speech. There might be some exceptions to this, like if content is being downvoted that would otherwise be someone benefiting from the suffering of others.

There are examples of power abuse here and downright bullying, and not many want to touch it/confront it, because there is little that can be done aside from making yourself a target.

I've always been a proponent of consensus based downvoting. That is, if someone disagrees with content, then it is "reported" and goes into a voting trial period, where the people get to decide, and stake weight should have nothing to do with the outcome. The downside to that, is mass account creation which could be used as a tool to protect gamers. If it's stake weight consensus based, then it would only need a few whales to agree or disagree, so generally speaking , it's difficult to imagine a perfect downvote system. Being that this system is able to be gamed with abuses, it's tough to argue the need for flags.

The problem with human beings, is opinions opinions opinions, and even that is an opinion which another human being might find disagreeable! Sometimes I think we are just too smart for our own good, another opinion though 😛

Nice thoughts @logiczombie.
