The Last Stand (film): Arnie's first leading role in 10 years

in #films6 years ago

This is the first movie he had a starring role in since 2003 - he has been in plenty of supporting roles. For one thing it makes me a bit sad to see one of my childhood heroes get older, but that being said; for fans of Schwarzenegger's style, this movie is entertaining enough.

Arnold is of course a law-enforcement officer, who has taken a post in a town where very little in the way of crime ever happens. There are very few people that even live in this sleepy border town in Arizona and as you would expect, Arnold has a sort of special forces past that enables him to handle much bigger situations than parking tickets.

The towns truly eccentric resident is named Lewis Dinkum (played by Johnny Knoxville) and he just happens to be the collector or a large cache of weapons

This ends up being extremely convenient when a group of drug lords decide to use their town as an escape route for a crime boss who recently broke out of FBI custody in a suped up Corvette which is likely in the movie as some sort of expensive advertising for Chevrolet.

As is usual with Arnold films, the odds are stacked firmly against him since backup can not possibly make it in time to help out and it is up to him, his 2 deputies, and Dinkum to stop this escape.

If the things i mentioned above seem like spoilers I think it could only be perceived as such by someone that has never seen a Schwarzenegger film and I don't think there are any of those people who are over 10 years old. The movie is extremely predictable, but filled with good effects and fun action. However, this is not a movie i would recommend anyone go terribly out of their way to see. It is good, mindless entertainment.

5.5 / 10

Was good to see Arnold back doing what he loves on the set. Thought there was certainly a lot of cussing going around in the movie, but am definitely a fan of mindless action

Its good to see Arnie back.
Liked the movie may be not worth watching in theatres but definitely worth watching on TV

Following the results of viewing, there is practically nothing to remember. Well, except that the mad race of Corvette and Camaro through the cornfield, where in reality they would have driven no more than a meter. Moreover, for the final - a special thank you. Ray is dragging Cortez tied to a bumper on a rope for five kilometers, with a leg broken in the drug baron and he is jumping on one leg. Five kilometers away. These guys - they are such entertainers.
I must say that they put the excellent actor Forest Whitaker in the role of this head of the FBI in vain. Forest Whitaker is a dramatic actor, he tries to play the role very seriously, and his character behaves like a complete idiot. Moreover, Forest is frankly sorry: well, how did it bring it to this project?

"I'll be back "... and Arnold kept his promise. It's a spectacular comeback. I would compare the feeling with The Expendables. If you don't take it seriously, it's hard not to like it.

The scenario is typical of a B category action film (poor intrigue, predictable action and a few forced and ilogical moments). But, who cares when we have an excellent rhythm, spectacular action gigs, gorgeous characters, funny phases and funny replicas (especially in the last 40 minutes), a Corvette ZR1 that gives us palpitations at every acceleration, a Camaro ZL1 that makes him a rival and a good director - Jee-woon Kim who is definitely a Tarantino fan.

A fun movie that's worth the money, and it can even be seen again when you want a pack of action and comedy.

It's a 6/10 for me.

Arnold Schwarzeneggar has clearly left his prime - probably a good 20 years ago. He could never win an Oscar for his acting ability and his many great films, for which I am certainly a fan, were realistically, in part, an admiration for his Mr Olimpia physique - films like the terminator could not be the same without him.

Having reached the age of 65, he is not the same and with no real acting ability, this could really have been an embarrassing flop. However, the movie have a good plot, some absolutely fantastic action driving sequences which ultimately result in a pretty enjoyable movie to watch.

It is not going to watch this for the old Arnie (you need to get the old dvds out for that), but its a good action movie and well worth a watch.

pulled from a review off of IMDB word for word. https://www.imdb.com/user/ur31697507/

The name "The Last Stand" must be cursed for movies. It didn't work for the X-Men franchise and it doesn't work for Arnold Schwarzenegger. This movie is kind of ridiculous. I like the premise, but the acting and dialogue are so clunky that it is distracting. The Last Stand is humorous when it tries to be serious, and groan-inducing when it tries to be funny. There are a few cool action moments, but for the most part this movie is a waste of time.
