There's No Template For 'Healthy'

IG - More than dress size.jpg

Let's talk about this seriously. Social media today is FULL of images of toned, tanned and taut people, talking about how happy they are to be "healthy". And perhaps they are.

But just because they look like that, doesn't guarantee that they're in fact, healthy. And just because you don't look like that, doesn't mean you're not healthy.

I cannot stress this enough! So many of us are taught that simply "losing weight" is what will make us/keep us healthy. And yes, being overweight/obese does adversely affect health in many ways, but that isn't the only factor to consider. 👇

You can be skinny, but still have hormone imbalances, high cholesterol, eating disorders, or even depression. And those are ALL unhealthy! Comparatively, if someone is a size 10, but has perfect blood reports, can climb stairs without panting, and most importantly IS HAPPY, then who's really healthier? 🤔

Don't tie your fitness and health goals to measurements in inches or kilos. Tie them to the stuff that REALLY matters -- holding a plank, being able to climb 5 flights of stairs without panting, being able to lift moderate weight without injuring yourself, having normal cholesterol and hormone levels, sleeping well, being emotionally happy -- THAT'S what defines how truly healthy you are! 💞

So focus on becoming healthy. Not a dress size, not a goal weight. Healthy. Don't go ripping ligaments and busting knees in the pursuit of a Size Zero. Don't develop a fear or hatred of food because "Ohmigod CARBS!"

Be healthy. Be happy. No matter what that looks like in the mirror. ✨

You're more than just a dress size.

Super! I always talk about this, health is not related to your weight and looks, It's your FITNESS.
What you can do with your body and mind. I have a friend who might look overweigth at first glance, but she is a pilot, cycles 50 kms 4 times a week, goes for hiking every Sunday and has unbeatable stamina.
And I am glad you've also talked about mental/emotional fitness as well.
Physical and mental fitness is what is most important.
I've do regular exercise, eat healthy and do Yoga & meditation to keep myself fit.

Thanks for all the support, @hardikv! :-D I absolutely agree, we've become too conditioned to judge 'fitness' solely based on appearances. There's so much more happening in our bodies and minds that nobody can realise but us.

Yes, 'listening' to their own body is what people have to learn.

I was just checking out some of your older posts. You have great content, motivating. I was already following you but now will be on the lookout for your posts.
Cheers! 😊 ✨

Crazy.. Just posted a comment after reading the Post of @bombaybellyrina telling the same thing :D Then i scroll up to read the comments and I see this ^^
Nice!

Coincidence? I think not! 😁 😁

That's very kind of you, thank you so much! I hope I don't disappoint :)

About 3 Years ago i was really overweight.. By that time I was about 16 years old. I rarely did sports and I ate really unhealthy. Even though I started facing problems with my weight I was a really happy person. At least that is the way people described me. I was and I still see myself as a happy-guys but I also had a very low self-confidence. Beside that my body started to tell me that it was time to lose some weight. I had pain in my knees, my feet couldn't hold the weight and many more signs showed me that it was time for change

Today a few years later I lost 42 kilos, boosted my self-confidence and I rarely think about things like "Am I too fat?" - Simply because it feels good the way it is. I eat what I want, which is no problem because I learned to love the sports I'm doing. And the way it is, it is a well-being.

I think we should all just listn to what our body is trying to tell us. Sadly most of the people don't do it.

Thats a great post of you, you've got a new follower ;)

Thank you, @sidibeat. And kudos on learning to listen to your own body! I absolutely agree, it holds the key to our physical and mental health.

Love all your articles so far . I'm not that much on the Internet these days because my arm hurts from holding my phone too much 🙀 and I ended up with a nerve infection. Need to heal it !
It is a never ending struggle with my pound. Tired of this because, I love to eat ! I got used to my voluptuousness!

Thank you, @mammasitta. Please take good care of your health. Hope your arm heals well, and you're back to captivating us all with your fabulous stories. <3
And you, my voluptuous Viennese goddess, are beautiful!

That was very well written. I totally agree. Being into fitness, you have to eat healthy. I thought that exercise was the hard part. But what really tough is nutrition. Previously I was obsessed with my goals, PR's and stuff. Recently I took a break from these and trying to maintain a healthy lifestyle and stopped obsessing over these things. Thanks for sharing :D

So glad you agree, @rahul516! :) I agree, balancing nutrition is definitely the harder part.

SO true ! Great and fun author !!!

Well said. The only way I can exercise is by doing something I enjoy. I can't sit and lift barbells and run the treadmill in the gym for hours, it's just not me. I love yoga and skating and recently I've been getting into hiking. For me it's about letting go of some of the gym mentality ideas like "lifting your bodyweight is not enough". I don't need to look like Wonder Woman, lifting my body weight with yoga is quite enough for me to be strong.

Thank you so much for this article, it was so well stated and we need more of it. Becoming healthier needs to be the goal over fitting a certain dress size.

Thanks for the support, @catonwheels! I absolutely agree, every person's approach to health & fitness should be defined by what they truly enjoy. Bodies are different not just in their shapes and sizes, but also in what they respond to. And isn't that amazing? How boring we would all be if we were alike. :)

True! Beauty is only skin deep! You can't judge a book t's cover! True health is not determined by how you look but by the quality of your life. I couldn't agree with you more.
