Spontaneous Trip to Kuala Selangor – Jeti Seafood Restaurant

in #food6 years ago (edited)

The seafood restaurants in Kuala Lumpur these days really can’t be compared to other states now. It is too expensive and the taste is honestly just below average. Not to mention the seafood they usually use is not at all fresh. Thus, my friend and I decided to head over to Kuala Selangor for some good and low cost seafood!

We did some research online before heading out, and managed to find a few restaurants with pretty good reviews. However, we only had time for one visit, so we picked Jeti Seafood Restaurant. The journey to Kuala Selangor was pretty long and exhausting considering the amount of traffic despite the fact that it was a weekday. It was my first time heading to Kuala Selangor, and I find that the roads are fairly similar to Malacca’s. We were even lucky enough to spot a few adorable little goats along the way.

Anyway, we had to go through some narrow roads in some “kampong” area nearing the river. We arrived at the Jeti Seafood Restaurant at approximately 5p.m. It was kind of early for dinner, but we had to make do as our tummies were already rumbling. The set-up of the restaurant is rather old school, not much renovation has been done despite its good reputation. Staff were not the friendliest, but they did pass us the menu and gave us some time to decide on our order.

No prices were stated on the menu, which I kind of disliked as my past experience with such restaurants proved that they end up trying to con you. Especially if you are a tourist. We made sure to ask for the approximate prices before we placed our order. As there were only three of us, and one of our friends is a very small eater, we ordered three dishes. While waiting, we looked around and realised that there was a nice river view overlooking the restaurant. The air in the restaurant was rather cool with the traditional fan stands despite the especially hot weather that day.

The food took approximately 15-20 minutes to be served on our table, which I was pretty impressed with. First came the buttermilk mantis prawn we ordered, costing RM14. The presentation was exquisite and made our mouths water.

However, we were very disappointed with the taste, as the buttermilk sauce was fairly tasteless and they provided very little of it too. The mantis prawn on the other hand was okay, but there was barely any meat in it.

Then came the saviour, the huge portion of salted egg sotong, costing RM16.

The presentation was not as good as the first, and there were no salted egg to be seen on the dish, but every bite was crunchy and it had a rich flavour of salted egg goodness to it! This dish is highly recommended.

Last, but not least was the crispy oyster omelette pancake, costing RM12.

The size was as huge as a large pizza to our surprise. We all agreed that the pancake was really good, with the crispy edges and chewy middle. The oyster they used was very fresh too. However, we recommend that this dish is only ordered if you have a bigger group.

And guess what, the bill only came up to RM48, including rice and drinks! How unbelievable is that! Food is good, but service needs to be improved. Even so, it was definitely worth the hour’s drive, and we all ended up going home with huge, happy bellies!

Oh...seafood...they do not exist in my school 😂

I highly recommend a visit to Pulau Ketam if you want some really crazily fresh seafood :D it's quite an isolated and undeveloped place in Selangor, you might not even get 3G signal there but it's perfect for slacking around and of course eating. I would go there a second time if I have a chance :)

I actually heard about the Pulau Ketam some years back and till now I still did not have the chance to visit it LOL!

Be sure to visit there before the construction plans hit there! It's beautiful in its very own way :)

P/s: Freshness of crab? Catch from sea -> Cook -> Eat. Left some? Throw back to sea to feed fish...haha.

And the sunset view there is super good. Be sure to bring a decent camera or phone along if you are visiting it some day later :D

Seems that 2 out of 3 dishes that is good is still not a trip wasted @jasonljw!

For restaurants like this, I wouldn't mind that there is no presentation but the food is worth while.

Don't forget to check out Steemit World map to help set this Malaysian restaurant on world wide stage for greater exposure!
