Without anesthesia, it was excruciating
The pain of removing the atomizer was excruciating. The tech gave no mercy to her. There was no way this should have been viewed as "outpatient surgery", and without the option of anesthesia?
It was clear that removing the Nutrica device was frowned upon. After all, wasn't society so much better with everyone hopped up on the green, little pills?
She refused to let the well of tears behind her lids spill. She wouldn't give them the satisfaction of knowing they could break her. He saw the shine in her eyes and smirked to himself with an evil, malicious satisfaction.
"Is that it?" she rasped out, her voice trembling with bitter disdain.
"Hm." His refusal to acknowledge her further infuriated her more.
"Good riddance."
"Riddance? ha. I've seen all you holier-than-thou martyrs before. Make sure you request me when you're back in here for a new installation. I'll even keep your old atomizer here for you." He waved the device inches from her face as she grabbed her jacket and stormed from the room.
On the other side of the door, fidgeting surreptitiously, was a nurse hiding her face partially behind a clipboard. Without any regard for the newly operated tissue, the woman clawed her arm, pulling forward. Breath and spittle streaked across the girl's face, as the nurse rushed words into her ear.
"Run for your life."
