Don’t Lose The Key
The key has many uses and the shape of it has evolved. There’s the standard regular old fashioned key that locks the door of your house. The size and shape of these have changed over the years. Then with the invention of the motor car the key to start it was a crank to turn at the front of the vehicle, eventually a more simple method was invented with a key in the ignition on the dashboard.
Nowadays you can hang up that keychain with five or ten keys dangling from your belt and just remember the code and push a few buttons or carry a fob in your purse or pocket.
I really like that option on many new cars. As long as you have the key (it’s not really a key but a fob) on your person, your car doors will open and you can push a button to start the car. The same applies when you have a load of groceries. With the fob in your purse you can just touch the lever for the trunk and it will open like magic.
In the Middle Ages, if a man had the key he could unlock the chastity belt of a wife of a man who has gone away to the crusades and win the proverbial ‘key’ to her heart. This may create a problem when the knight returns and finds his three children have multiplied to five.
It could be a quandary to get that horrid chastity belt off if her knight was killed or he lost the key.
As for chastity belts, I would think they would be torture with the rubbing of metal against flesh. By the time the knight returned and unlocked the belt, the poor woman would be too sore to even walk.

A knight goes on a long hike. Already sitting in the saddle, he calls his faithful friend, hands him the key to his young wife’s chastity belt and says:
--Dear friend, I will be absent for several years, all this time you must protect the honor of my wife, and always keep this key with you! And if I die in a glorious battle - then deliver her from the belt. Before the knight could move far from the city gates, he was caught up by a faithful friend on a soared horse. Already from afar, he cried out:
--What a blessing that I managed to catch you!
--And what happened? - the knight was alarmed.
“You gave me the wrong key!”

Thankfully @redheadpei, we do not have chastity belts anymore, what horrid torture it must have been for women. I wonder it there was more than one key!
It would be interesting to read the story of one of the women who wore one. It would have been sheer torture.
