Fridays Rock Quartz crystals

in #fridayrocks5 years ago (edited)

For @nat-expressions weekly challenge called #fridaysrock! The challenge is to share your favorite rocks and minerals.

I have had this piece of quartz for years. I bought it in Arkansas from an old man with a table set up along the country highway and I think I gave him $1 for it. He had several with big clear crystal points, but I was fascinated with this one.

Quartz is one of the most abundant minerals found on Earth and has deposits on all continents.

I'm only guessing that is pyrite (fools gold) among the crystals. And I am hoping someone that knows more than I do can tell me more! And if it is, is it called an inclusion, or is it only an inclusion when it is encased within the crystal?

Wow what wonderful quartz crystals 💎 @melinda010100!
That is so cool you have had rocks a long time, I've got
some been packing around for years lol

On your rock post @bitfiendexplained his tags in a reply to me.
#rockhound for @bitfiend and #fridaysrock for @nat-expressions
Now @rt395 should have #mineralmonday :-)
I could make #bouldersunday lol

Boulder Sunday! I have some great Boulder photos! All these Ss are confusing. I even confuse myself with shadowphoto and shadowphotos! I may never get them all right!

LOL I keep messing up these s's also :-)
Hmm I got a few boulders, I know there are
many around here, would make us get out
and hunt down the big rocks! Not going to
carry them home tho, just on the camera lol

Ha! Let's do some boulders!

I would bet close ups of smaller
stones could pass for boulders? lol
But ya some real rip roaring big
rocks you can't take home, like those
Amethysts yeow!

Yeah, I had never seen anything like those monster amethyst boulders. Who knew they even came in sizes like that!

I think I could find the perfect spot for an amethyst boulder! Those were beautiful!!

There have been times when I have said that I would like a certain rock...more like a boulder...for my garden knowing full well that I could never get it home. Next time I will take a picture to include in #bouldersunday. :)

I love this! I really need to take some pictures of some agates! I swear im gonna up my ante and be more attentive to #rockhound and #fridaysrock and im definitely down to support #mineralmondays and #bouldersundays lol

Can't go wrong with quartz Melinda.

An inclusion is considered inside of the crystal. There are also phantoms often found in quartz so look for those.

It is pyrite with possible hematite or magnetite. If the black material is magnetic it is the latter.

Cool specimen!

I knew I could count on you to know my answers! Hematite. It's not at all magnetic. Good to know!
Thanks!

Melinda, the tag you used is Fridayrocks. Is that the right tag or Fridaysrock?

I always mess up those S's! I.ll go fix it. Last week I forgot the S on RockHounds until @shasta pointed it out. I placed an order today in the shop. No hurry as long as I have them by Christmas!

Are these crystal stones?

It is Quartz crystals. Thanks for resteeming this!

Cool quartz @melinda010100 Lovely. I just like pretty rocks. No help from me on the technical stuff :)

Me too! I've had this piece of quartz for probably 25 years, and now I know. It's quartz with pyrite and the black stuff is hematite! One of the great things about Steem is having smart friends!

I love your quartz cluster. It seems you got quite the deal.

That's one of the advantages to being old! Everything that you bought 25 or 30 years ago seems like a bargain today!

That is very nice piece of quartz. I think it is also pyrite.

I'm glad I wasn't too far off!

Its shinning just like diamond. Diamond rock

It is pretty sparkly!

Thank you for joining #fridaysrock. This is a beautiful piece. I bet it is worth much more than a dollar. :)

I've got a couple that I have had for years that I bought for a steal. I'll post them, too!

Looking forward to seeing them!
