To full node or not to node

What's due is due

You should perhaps first glance thru my previous post about my experience with Byteball wallet. Or don't. Perhaps you shouldn't. Oh I don't know, what I've learned past few 12 days is that it's insignificant if you do everything right, or follow all the instructions. If your destiny is to fail today or this week, there's nothing you can do to prevent that. Better just duck, do evasive moves as you run to the nearest shelter made out of empty promises and take cover of the nuclear radiation under the nearest table. As if that's gonna help.

Enough of everything?

I would have loved to offer my small, unused hard drive space to support Byteball wallet. They say the Byteballs directed acyclic graph = DAG (like blockchain but not blockchain) takes 36Gb space and with SSD, syncing takes about 2 days. Well, my pc is almost always on, I have 770Gb unused space on my C drive, and if some day that's not enough for the ever growing DAG, today I have also two more drives that both have almost 1,5Tb of unused space, next year perhaps even more. And I could take one of my small back up drives that has 500Gb. My internet provider offers 100Mb/s DL speed, so syncing a blockchain or DAG shouldn't be a problem.

I happen to think that what I have (space and speed), are minimum requirements for a pc and the internet connection. I need the space if I want to do anything that has multiple photos in multiple layers in Photoshop. Or if I want to edit videos with Premiere. And I'm like any other internet user, can't wait that long if something doesn't happen within 3 seconds after clicking.

Windows Key + R, perfmon /report.
No fancy visual indicator there. But it did throw me lots of info. Here's something to ponder for you in Finnish.
Suorittimet: 6
Suorittimen nopeus (MHz): 3600
Muisti (Mt): 16,320
Sivukoko (tavuina): 4,096
Varaustarkkuus (tavuina): 65,536
Hypersäikeitä sisältävä: 0x0

So even thou I don't have enormous amounts of space, I have enough so that it shouldn't be a problem when thinking about under 50Gb of DAG. Except that it was. As you perhaps read from my previous post, the full wallet just kept syncing and syncing. After 5 days it was still syncing at 0% and the AppData folder on my pc wasn't growing. Ain't helping if I have SSD or plenty of space if the data isn't movin' my way.

Now that I have the light version of the Byteball wallet on my pc and on my tablet working, if you read the previous post and all the way to the added edit end, you know this, I'm thinking that I want to get rid of those wallets. I'd like to transfer the freaking tokens back to @drugwars and forget the Byteball wallets. I got bored and something really amazing and excellent has to happen so that I would get interested on the wallets again. But nothing will happen because I can't do any transfers because I have no bytes which are needed to transfer anything. Transfer can't be payed with the tokens / currency that you want to transfer. Which I kinda get that no-one want's payment in extra small amounts of tokens that might be / are worthless. But then again pretty inconvenient in this case. No bytes, Future tokens stuck forever in Byteball wallet.

Black, Red, OK and blocks

I think the best and easiest full pc wallets that I ever had were Blackcoin and Reddcoin. I don't have those wallets anymore because when I joined Steemit, I exchanged all my coins to SBD. Would have exchanged my OKcash too, but couldn't. I think I have that wallet hanging out there somewhere, on some forgotten machine, going on and on and on. Stalking the web the best way that it can with the small funds that it has. 10.000 years from now I will be rich.

Anyway, when I had all kind of other coins, I always selected those wallets where I could download the full wallet, the full node with the blockchain. And both Redcoin and Blackcoin had also the option that if you didn't want to wait few hours or few days for the blockchain to sync on the wallet, you could go and download the blockchain separately, extract it to the correct folder and have the wallet ready for you right away. Latest blockchains (that aren't all that fresh anymore): OKcash, Reddcoin, Blackcoin.

How about Steem?

I would love to do the same to Steem blockchain. If only there was a simple Steem wallet that I could download and install, perhaps download the Steem blockchain and extract it so that I wouldn't have to wait for the sync to happen. I do not code or understand C++ at all. I don't have a Linux. And I'm not interested in the witness thing as in begging for votes campaigning for myself and telling people how much I do for the blockchain. Because I don't. And if I did, I am really bad at telling about it. I'm the type that does stupid stuff and announces it to everyone but when I do something useful I'm like: "There it is, use it if you want to, don't use it if you don't want to." But I could offer my unused space to maintain the Steem blockchain and confirm everything that's happening out there.

Now let's see, what else could I test online.

That was "fun". Never gonna do that again.

So many coins, so many wallets, so many passwords. Most people already have trouble keeping track of where they put their car keys. The near future of the Blockchain promises to be very confusing, indeed!

Let's hope eventually there will be an answer to all the data we need to keep safe.

I predict that soon some day all passwords will be obsolete as cracking those, or better yet going thru all the possible options, will be easy for everyday computers. So we have to switch into something else. Perhaps an iris scan, fingerprint, face and voice recognition and a spit sample. Then we will remember fondly of all those days when a simple 20 or 30 character password could only be copied from to clip board and easily used from there as we are somewhere in the middle of nowhere at some sleazy bar shouting for the 50th time to our phones or laptops: "It's me, how can you piece of devils equipment not recognize my voice? It's me and I do not look like my neighbor, it's me! You better not let anyone use my account with a photo off my face and I decide how many glasses is too much, there is not too much alcohol in my spit!"
