Purchasing Another Small Funko Pop Collection
I always like posting these as they enter the shop so frequently and I feel it gives a glimpse of what it’s like running a shop and buying collections. As I’ve mentioned many times here already, purchasing collections are one of my favorite aspects of owning the business. It just happens so often nowadays that we can afford to be super choosy in terms of making the buy or letting it walk. This is one I snagged...
A gentleman came in with a runnermaid tub and told me he “doesn’t like Stranger Things anymore” and wanted to get rid of his collection. The problem right off the bat is that 75% of what he has here are commons which I already have. I told him we only pay a couple bucks each for collections like this and that he would do better online. I got the usual response which was that he didn’t want to put in the time and effort and didn’t care as around half were given to him by his ex. I’m thinking that had more to do with it but whatever.
So I offered him $75 bucks for the lot and he gladly accepted. All in all he was in the shop for about 3 minutes as this one was wrapped up quickly. He did take his Rubbermaid tub though as he said “mom wants it back”. Gotcha brother!
So for $75 beans I ended up with 25 Pops, a Dorbz, and a Vinyl 2 pack. That breaks down to around $2.78 a piece. Not too shabby and I won’t get rich, but I’ll move these all especially with convention season right around the corner. The one Game of Thrones piece that was in the lot fetches around $65 bucks alone which I was unaware of so at least that’s a nice surprise.

Funko Pops is one those things, I am never going to get into mainly, because of my addictive personality. It would start with one figure, two figures and before you know it I would be fighting hobos for pennies (which wouldn't be the first time).
Man, I know just what you mean. You think you can keep it to under ten, and then suddenly you're renting out a new storage unit just to keep them all. :)
That sums it up perfectly.

That’s what has happened with so many customers at my shop. They avoid for so long then finally break down as it is a character from their favorite show or whatnot. Fast forward a couple months and they have a couple hundred of these in their collection. Lol

Particularly good timing for the Margaery Tyrell piece. The release of the new season will always bring a bit of interest to merchandise lines.
Oh yeah, when the shows are active and currently airing...interest is at an all time high. When it’s off season, interest wains.

Mate, its the geeks nerds and anoraks that are needed on Steem to build niche communities and take it forward. To be honest, I'm trying to get some model train fans to join up but its an elderly hobby and they can't even understand the new digital controllers so with Steem they have no chance lol...

Agreed. It’s definitely a challenge...especially for older folks. Would be awesome though to see many different communities joining up and flourishing here. The potential is there. That’s for sure.
