Hi, I’m FknMayhem and I’m Addicted... Addicted to Idle Clickers.

in #gaming5 years ago (edited)

As someone who generally doesn’t mind being alone I spend most of days as a fkn philosopher reading. My reading habits are mostly tech/blockchain related and "war stories" books.

The war stories or founder biographies but also the more romantized form of biographies, those of sports people and musicians. What’s not to love about reading an over the top easy Zlatan or Anthony Kiedis story. Generally, despite romanization, there’s a lot of inspiration to be found in those books and life wisdom even. No matter how over the top, often, there’s always gems to be found.

Unsurprisingly, I also read The Players Tribune almost religiously. Essays like the recent “Earning My Smile” by Ian Wright or King Cantona’s “What’s the Meaning of Life” - yes, I’m a football fan, soccer for you, yanks - are stories which lead to healthy moments of perspective and self-introspection. Which, of course, for a stoicism pursuing person is a great thing. And should be, is for anyone else caring even the slightest bit about themselves and their own personal evolution.

But there’s more in those moments of downtime.

I’m an addict.

Addicted to... idle clickers.

As I’m writing this post, I have some crappy free stock music playing in the background, stock music which is part of the game High Day 420 and I’m waiting for my cannabis plants to grow.

No, no... I don’t smoke. It’s just that I’m addicted to cannabis idle clickers.

I recently discovered High Day 420 and needless to say that in the days since SkyForce Reloaded has been relegated to the background.

That is in’t all though.

You see, when I say “addicted”, I mean it. High Day 420 isn’t the only game running on my device which gets regularly checked. Another game which I have been playing daily for more than half a year now is Egg, Inc..

Before that, I have been addicted to the then hugely popular Game of War and while there was fun in nuking other’s empires, I found most satisfaction in building empires. Luckily, I was in the beta program and thus we could often start from scratch again. Which were always the funnest days, even funnier than when we had 24 hours no shield days.

That’s right... I like building things.

More than I like destroying things. Those days of playing Black & White and wiping out whole villages when in a bad mood have long gone. The truth is... I’m barely angry nowadays.

When not reading, my gaming has been almost entirely replaced with idle clickers. The odd round of Injustice (2) aside.

Did you say some crap in-app ad with a playable game? Dang... I even can’t really resist those.

Yes, I’m a sucker for idle clickers.

Tiny Towers, Pocket Planes by Nimblebit have played them all. in truth, I even occasionally DuckDuckGo and look for “best idle clickers [year]”.

Can you say addiction?

Have you ever maintained an aquarium? Or many? Virtual aquariums I mean, of course. The real life aquariums are a totally different experience and one I love. But they don’t fit in one’s pocket.

Luckily, I never went public about my Fishville addiction.

No, that I would never do. If anything, I would only do such about my love for Desktop Tower Defense games. Which probably is even older than my idle clickers addiction.

But that’s another story for another day.

They're so so bad. Every now and then I see one that looks interesting, try it and it's so predictably arbitrarily restrictive. There is the overwhelming sense that your attention is being directly mined. While that happens a lot I don't know of another form in which it is so apparent. It's uncanny.

Have you tried OGame? It predates the idle clicker format but they no doubt took their seed from games like this. I'd recommend a return to these, and stalwarts such as Civilization, Age if Empires and Sim City. Even the "tycoon" games are better, though generally of less quality.

One of the great things about OGame is that it is a little bit multiplayer, very interestingly so, as you might imagine huge space journeys to be, taking time, etc. and there's a dedicated community there of die-hards. At the early stages of the game though you are safe from other players.

The main thing is that these are focused on player enjoyment not (only) the hijacking of your mind.

Also, Black & White was awesome. 😎

Black & White was rather epic, despite all bugs which plagued the game. Slightly overhyped because late delivery but the concept was epic and the game (eventually) delivered. B&W 2 was not different lol.

AoE... those were the days. Spent way too many hours on that. A game I also liked was Spellforce, the combination of RTS and RPG was innovative then.

Never truly got in the tycoon games, except on the iPad. But they’re generally too offhand for me. That said, they’re long not what the older tycoons were anymore.

Oh I definitely meant the older tycoon games, I'm talking Dinopark Tycoon!

I have one game loaded on my ipad... pixel starships lol can do a few things and close it only take a few minutes or longer if you want. I wanted soem game where I can build something yet not be a time sink.

what im waiting for is some of these games to come up with voice commands. Like working on my PC i could have a 4th screen up with just game like that and while drawing could simply give it voice command and not miss a stride. I think that would open up possibilities for gaming as well.

I really like that voice controlled games idea, my N.A.D.D would be over the moon because of it.

My love of pixel art demanded that I loved Tiny Towers... and I truly did. I normally hate any notifications on my phone for anything but phone calls and text messages... but I just couldn't help wanting to know the minute a new floor had been constructed. The art style was so incredible simple, and yet the detail they managed to squeeze in was so good.

My little brother is a hardcore Minecraft player, and some of the things he's built are just incredible. I never got into it, but I'm glad a game like that exists... it's weird to me that the Lego MMO never really took off. I'm sure it could have been huge.

I think LEGO's gaming sector doesn't necessarily benefit best marketing crew for the LEGO brand. More often than not they license and I fear that may have led to lacking to understand the real power and potential of their MMO platform. Because they've generally been less actively personally involved in it.

Other than that, LEGO has a stellar modern internet track record. From what they did in Mine raft to recently crowdfunding their special limited Koi fish line. It's still an amazing as ever brand.
