20 buttons and 1 weirdo
Two years ago I sowed some cacti seeds that picked from an old old cactus we have. The Fatty as we call it (Lophophora Williamsii to be more precise) is over 10 years old, blooms every year and gives seeds every year. It is the best thing to test sowing cacti seeds if you have too many of them, right?
Anyway.. that was two years ago! And those little buttons are a true buttons. The biggest one (photo above) is about 1 cm across, so you can imagine the crazy speed they grow with ;).
At the same time I sowed a mix of cacti I received from a fellow cactus maniac so I could keep them all together and watch them grow together. Most of them are quite big now... they look like the small cacti you can buy in supermarkets and I do hope to see some first flowers next year.
But wait.. there is this one weird one that didn't want to grow and was almost squashed by the big cousins. I took him out and put him together with the baby Fatties since they are all small too. And what the heck is that??
It doesn't look like any of the cacti that already grew big. It look like the bottom is a different plant and top is a different plant :p I will let it grow of course and see what will happen.
Back to the cute buttons. They do not have spines, they do have a little bit of fur though. So soft and petable :p
The mother plant is all green, and some babies look just like her, but some turn a bit purple. So pretty :)
This one is less than 1 cm across..

Yes, they were all sown together from the same seed batch. I guess some are stronger than others.

They are considered difficult? I don't really pay much attention to the mother one. Just water from time to time. The babies grew nicely. Some I put outside when they were just few months old and they took all the conditions well too and growing well (I think they are even slightly bigger).
I keep hearing that I have a green thumb. Whatever I plant grows :) (unless I kill it).

Yes, they are not easy plants to grow; they have taproot, so never have to be watered unless the soil is c-o-m-e-p-l-e-t-e-l-y dry. One mistake and it is dead.
I guess it is good I forget about it :p
