Mental Health Awareness Week: Why Mental Well Being Is As Important As Physical Health? Coping With Stress!

Frequently we are challenged by our surroundings that affects our brain in a certain way. We get demotivated and become anxious about the things that are happening to us. This can adversely affect our mental health or it can make us very strong-headed. We should understand that not everyone can face a problem in the similar way. Some people actually get disheartened by the bad things happening to them. Now, sometimes it is genetic or trauma based due to something happened in our childhood but most of the time it is due to the daily STRESS we face that adds up to an illness. Psychological and emotional well being of person is as important as the physical well being.

What Is Mental Health Awareness Week?

Hosted by the Mental Health Foundation founded in 1949 as a British Charitable Organization, this year for Mental Health Awareness Week (14-20 May), they're focusing on stress. Research has shown that two thirds of us experience a mental health problem in our lifetimes, and stress is a key factor in this. Normally people who are around us keep ourselves reminding about how physical health is important. But I think, mental and physical well-being go hand in hand. If you are not healthy, you are neither happy or fit. Also, even if you are fit, then you have to be mentally strong to maintain that physical posture that you have worked upon. Often times, people go under stress and forget about working on their body. They are into so much heart-ache or tired of facing difficulties that they find harmful ways to relive it. Most people take shelter of Alcohol or Drugs to relief their minds that gives them false hope or pleasure. That's deadly for the mind and body as well.

I am listing down a few reasons, why Mental Health is as important as any other thing in this world:

Now that we have discussed why mental health is as important as your physical health, let's now list down some ways to cope up with STRESS - The Most Common Cause Of Mental Illness.

I wrote this post to bring awareness about mental health and why it important to cope up with the STRESS. I think MHAW is a great initiative to improve the livelihood of human beings around us. Useful post here. I'd say that even better than coping with stress is to have a stress release/resolution process available. Of course, my favourite is EFT/Tapping.

After all, coping is stressful in it's own right!

Never really tried it myself though but I guess I need to have a look at it now. Does it work for occasional stress as well or people use it only when they are stuck in a cycle of work or continuous emotional distress?

It works for EVERYTHING!

However, remember that some stress is good. Tapping generally doesn't get rid of appropriate emotions, only excessive ones.

And Yes, the kind of stress that I get on fridays or saturdays for not taking out my wife to dinner is good for me. Keeps reminding me to take out more time for family and make it up on Sundays. ;) Haha!

Mental health is really important in job or work prespective i think.

@techxegama, you are absolutely right. For that matter, it is important for your life, work, relationships and everything else. :)

Very good post dude.

Id say mental health is the most common issue of people not functioning at this moment. Whether it is because of stress or motivation or anxiety. A lot of people are struggling with it.

My simple advice: go outside. Walk through the woods or other nature. Forget the time and your cellphone. Breathe the air!
